How annoyed would you be? rather long

If you pay £60 a week I would not be expecting gates to be left open or horses to be getting teased. To be quite honest I think this is a case of a mismanaged yard and not anyones fault as such.
I would be having a pleasant word with the YO and letting her/him know about your concerns about the yard. You pay FAR too much money to be mucked about.

Gosh, it sounds a bit of a slum.

Safety would be more important to me than facillities - and I wouldn't want my horse on a yard like that I'm afraid.

Tbh and don't shoot me for saying this but I think you're over reacting. These things happen and leaving a horse in the field for 5minutes isn't a big thing, and how do you know its that that has made him lame and not something else? It wasn't purposful and I personally wouldn't think twice about leaving a horse for 5minutes - especially if its turned out seperately. Yes maybe she should get more help and suggest that to her, but don't blame this guy! I'm not mentally handicapped and I still wouldn't have thought of it.
Sorry but I think its just a case of getting over it. What I would class as annoying is haviing your horse turned out with a horse with a contagious disease which I have had to deal with - thats ALOT more negligent.

I think you are being VERY out of order. This guy does you a favour by bringing him in, you have no right to comment that maye in hindsight he should have taken them in the other way round. The YO obviously believes he is capable of doing the job. As we all understand with ownng horses, these things happen.

The only answer I can give you is if you are going to want to blame someone for yours horses every nook and nick, brng it in yourself.

The government pays his wages, so essentially he is free labour, thats why he is still employed there, not because he is good at what he does!

[/ QUOTE ] The fact that he is not paid out of the takings from the yard will make prices there cheaper. If you are really annoyed and concerned I suggest you pay extra for someone else to bring your horse in.

This does not come into the equation ! How the hell do you know he is not paid by the YO, it is none of your business to know or use that information

I have to agree with GW i'm afraid.
I don't know why you don't blame the others for bringing their horses in early, how dare they!!! Are they not as much to blame as this other guy, because they created the situation in the first place.

Accidents happen with horses, it's nature.
Can't you just look at it as a part of horse ownership, and move on.

I thought DIY meant do it yourself

I think you are being very hard on the guy.
I also think £60. a week is a lot of money for DIY

Thanks again.... I have calmed down a bit now (the swelling has come down a bit, so fingers crossed he will be ok in a few days)... perhaps I was overreacting about this particular event, but everything considered, I am still looking to move...

This morning he turned one of the other horses out alone(which is under strict insturctions NOT to be put out alone because she is an escape risk at the best of times - there were 2 others that are ok to go out alone that he also puts out that he could have taken first), leaving the gate open behind him... she stayed in her patch, but going nuts until the next one got there, but set that one off while it was being walked down the lane..... double problem, when there should have been no problem!! Hopefully no injuries were sustained this time, but its only a matter of time unless something is done (again, not blaming him - its poor management)!

I fully accept that accidents happen and sometimes leaving a horse on its own for 5 mins is unavoidable, BUT when it is easily avoidable (or the risk of a problem can be minimised by choosing to leave/put out the horse least likely to create), with no inconveinence to anyone - I dont think it acceptable for horses/handlers to be put in unnessicary risk like this on a regular basis!

The YO is still turning a blind eye, but I think safety should come first, so I will be finding somewhere else!
