How are all my fellow sufferers? I know a few of us are going through the PSD trudge at the moment.

Josie is good, I think. It's 6 months now since the injury. We've been back riding in walk for 12 weeks and trot for 6.

Best of all, she's out in the big field with all her mates. I tend to close my eyes and pray at some of the antics though.

We have our 6 month scan today. Hope it shows all is well.

Am so nervous about it. Even though I ride every day and she's trotting out like a cart horse, I see some ofthe things in field she gets up to, and wonder if I'm on borrrowed time with it? Depressing I know.

How's that gorgeous Diz? x

Hard to type with fingers crossed

Know the feeling. Will keep all tied in knots for you.

The Dizzbat has a knee the size of a slightly smaller football ta

. Still moving on it okay. Vet's coming to look at various other neds today, so she'll have a quick look at Dizzbat as well just as a precautionary measure

Good luck today, fingers crossed

Oh what a plonker! Was hoping it would have gone down by now. Think our neds are from a 'special' pot, for 'special' people

Everyone down the yard says Josie found me for a reason.

Hmm, to fund the vets bills I think!

It's always nice when you can see a good result on the screen I think!

I wish they'd understand how important just grazing and mooching is. Why do they insist on playing 'who can gallop to the gate and back fastest?'

Well, we had our scan.

After a small problem of the vet doping Josie, then finding the power cable for the scanner wasn't in the bag. A 50 min round trip to get it, and me with a doped horse!!

Scan looks good. The origin, is enlarged, but it's going to be, that's why we denerved it. The hole in the main body is completely filled in.

No canter work for 6 months, it was a massive injury, and by rights I shouldn't even be riding now, let alone able to trot happily for half an hour.

So we're erring on the side of caution and no canter for 6 months.

I can however, lunge in the school, which will help me no end through the winter.

Best of all. NO MORE SCANS! Thats it, all done, unless there's a problem, he doesn't want to see her again!

The 2nd time?? Oh poor you. I wouldn't wish this on anyone once, let alone have to go through it twice.

Best of luck with the op and everything x x

Yep got my big lad Mac through it only to have to retire him due to navicular shortly afterwards.
So got my nice new lad two years ago, two years of fun then uh oh pottery front feet, go that sorted with pads then vet says think his back is out, go in for xrays and he trots lame that day, scan both hinds and right hind very bad PSD the whole core of the suspensory has gone and left hind has shadows on the outer edge.
We have kissing spine to contend with once we get his legs right, but thankfully not touching just closer than they should be.
I give up!

I hope Josie and everyone elses horses continue to make good recoveries.

Ah your boy has done a Josie!! Not just content with doing the origin, we'll go for the core too.

How are they treating the core leision? If you dont mind me asking. I've never 'known' anyone else with a core prob too.

You can join mine and Mrs M's 'special' gang too if you like!

What rotten luck for you! Bloonin horses eh?

Oh me neither. What was Josies treatment?

Because the core has gone vet has said go for the operation straight away, he's hopeful that operation and associated rest will work.
But if not as he's going to use shock wave on Atty's back he's considering shock waving the legs post operation as well.
Not something he's tried before and he'll only do it if he thinks it's necessary.

Ah ok. So the op for the origin, and rest/shockwave for the core?

Josie had the op for the origin, and for the core leision she had platlette rich plasma injected straight into the hole. Whilst under GA. I'm not sure if this is common practise, my vet has hinted this may be a new thing he's 'trying' and with Josie it really was, 'do whatever might possibly work'

The hole was completely gone by week 4! Much to mine and my vets surprise.

Dont know if it's worth you talking to your vet about it? I'll happily help any way I can?

I do know you cant do shockwave and the injection. Something about it warping the way it lays down it's healing fibres?

We're a very rare breed us core breakers, my vet had only ever seen it in race horses, never in a 'pleasure' horse, no matter how hard the owrk load

Funny thing is this has all happened to Atty since his workload was pretty much stopped. He's really done very little since April and this all started in June with the front feet and then in September we hit the back/PSD issues.
But Atty was a trekking pony in his early years so I wonder if it's always been there. His right hind has always been his weakest leg but previously he's always tested 100% sound on it.
Thanks for the platelet info I shall mention it to my vet.

It's odd isn't it?

When I was researching PSD etc, often I'd read posts saying took x cross country then noticed he wasn't right etc.

Josie too doesn't do very much. She's an over grown pet I sit on!! lol.

As I said, anything I can do, dont hesitate to ask x

So far so good with mine after complications he is sound touch wood!!!!!
He was diagnosed in march with PSD in both hind legs really scarey:( he has been at a reabilitation Clinic for 3 months now and its looking sooooooo good!!!!) He going for a check up soon so fingers crossed thats if we can get him in the box he is now a sod to load since all he has done is go to the vets!!!!

Daisy had the surgery in March and still isn't sound. I'm wondering if the PSD wasn't the main problem. She has no Sacro' pain. I had a different physio out today and she said she is very tight through her Poll, withers, hamstrings and has a tight spot on her back.

She still steps right under with her back right leg when she trots.

Oh thats sad news, I'm sorry.

When Josie was diagnosed, my vet said this is one of the most frustrating injuries and he hates telling people they have a suspensory problem. It's so disheartening sometimes.

Hope you get better news soon.

You're are right. I'm trying a new physio, have ordered an equilibrium massage pad and have stuck her on synequin.

She's got a home for life whatever happens as she a Pet first, horse second.
