Very lucky we were able to buy 800 bales off the field paid £1.80 per bale - delivered and stacked for me ! and it's beautiful June hay - just trying to get another 200 bales in the barn - but it is fit to bust !!

Have seen hay advertised on tack shop boards etc at £2.75 -£3.00per square bale (worcestershire).

OMG! I wish I was paying £2.50/bale.

I'm in Norfolk and paying £2.50/bale of straw and £5.50/bale hay, although it is very good quality!! Loads of people I know who we bought off in the past can't even get hay for us, as there seems to be a massive shortage.

£4 per bale delivered. We are in Thames Valley.
If anyone knows of any cheaper priced locally I will come and collect !
I have been told by 2 suppliers that hay will be in short supply this year.

Well according to one livery on the yard they can get it at £2.50 a bale and people are panicking ! I think they might have a shock, because everyone locally is charging a lot more, and if you are trying to source it from further out of the county you will be charged delivery costs ! I do think there is an element of price fixing amongst suppliers, and I think they will get away with it this year.

we're being charger £3.50 per bale by YO, but goodness knows how much they're putting on to make profit. Bales are very light with very short strands of hay and, although they are good quality, I bet there's only half of what was in a bale last year :(
Feeling a little queasy at the thought of how much hay bills will be this year on that stuff!

£30 for either large rectangle hay bale or slightly smaller haylage. There is someone charging £7 for a small hay bale and £8.90 for a small haylage bale!! Suppliers are turning people away.

Stopped off at a place down here in Dorset yesterday that had a sign advertising hay, only to find they wanted £6 for a small, loosely packed bale(the baling twine came up about 8 inches when I picked one up!) Needless to say, I walked away.

In West Somerset been quoted £4.50 to £5 a bale - I nearly keeled over mine can eat a bale a day between the 2 1/2 of them :D

Last year we paid £1.80 a bale for wonderful stuff. Anyone in West Somerset know of cheaper?
Haylage was £16 a large farm square bale last year £22 a bale this year but can't use that until the weather cools down :( so gotta pay the awful hay prices.

I have paid £3.50 for small bales to collect this year as my yield was so low. I possibly could have shopped around for cheaper but I know, in my area, things are bad. Just relieved to get some tbh. With a slight change in management I have enough to see my lot through the winter.:)

And if push comes to shove i can always have the old boy pts.:eek::eek:

I mean my OH not my old horse...:D

thankfully our yard just opens a big (very big!) bale and everyone uses as much as they need. YO's then work out roughly how much each horse if having then charges accordingly. My 16.3 is in 8-5 and eats like an absoloute pig, and we pay £20 a month! very reasonable if you ask me! :) however locally hay seems to be £3-£3.50/small bale. we are in somerset.

My normal hay man charged £3.50 last year,he is £4 a small bale this year. I have another hay man but he doesn't deliver,he was £3.75 last year but it was softer quality hay,tbh by the time i spend the fuel on collecting the cheaper one i may as well go with £4 a bale man. A lot of suppliers are £4-8 a small bale here,Bucks/Oxon area. We havn't had a good yield around here at all,my nan lives in Somerset and the prices around there havn't changed from last year at all,£2-£3.50 down there i saw. I was gutted!

I'm near Burton on Trent, just had 10 bales from another person on the yard's supplier at 3-50, but have spoken to my usual one, and he's charging 2-50, beautiful hay, he does charge a flat £10 delivery, but the hay is worth it - he says he's fine for hay, and might start worrying in March that he's running out - I've reserved a load for the rest of my winter, but know he's got plenty!

£3.50 a bale delivered in devon (was expecting worse). Could have had some for £2 off the field but was too slow about it. Will teach me.

very interesting
generally i think these prices are cheap and thought that i had been conned
im going to wait a little bit and see if the price drops i have bought some of last years bales that will do for a while and they were at £2.00 per bale
the thing is i really worry about ragwort so i dont really want to divert from my usual seller but i might have to
i am between herefordshire worcestershire and shropshire but dont want to travel far or i might as well pay the extra money per bale
