so here is Ted and Leo. they are both 3 and both 15.2 (although leo is inching towards 15.3hh :P) ... How do you think they are looking weight and confirmation wise. And also id like some ideas on what showing classes i could take them in. we only show welsh cobs so i am not 'up to date' with what other classes are around :S.... thanks for looking here they are. (not great pics but heyy hoo :D)..

Ted, 15.2HH at the moment, ISH, gelding, 3yrs old.

Thanks for looking :)

Oh lovely. I particularly like Ted. Very nice. Weight looks good. Both look like hunters to me (but I stand to be corrected as for me they're either cobs or not-cobs!) but it also depends what level showing you want to do.

But, have to say I like very much:D

conformation wise, the both look like well put together horses from the photos provided, Ted more so than Leo.

From what I can gather from the picture, Leo's toes are too long, which alters the axis of hoof to pastern (2nd I've seen tonight :D) however, with trimming it can completely alter the conformation of the legs, making his pasterns stand more upright. Has a farrier ever mentioned this to you?

thanks for the replies.... Ted is looking better than Leo as he has been with me longer... leo was only broken the end of july and prior to that he lived out 24/7 so hes lacking in condition than ted who has been spoilt rotten since he set food on our yard lol.

And yes the farrier has mentioned it and did say something about working on altering the angel of the hoof ect ect. i let him get on with it :D.... thanks very much. im hoping to do working hunter with both of them (Y)

hunter breeding classes, but at around the 15.2hh mark they would be quite small. Get yourself to an Irish draught show, though you have missed the national one. I prefer ted as I prefer sportyer types though leo is A LOT nicer than my 3yr old ID was!

although they are 15.2 now, will they grow a little more?... and Leo probably looks as he does because he was bottle fed as a foal as his dam died when he was 4 weeks old.

Cant wait to see pics of Leo when he is all filled out and bright white (guess he will go full white as he is so ligt at 3) I like him, he just needs to grow into himself a bit. Will you go for the hogged mane look with him? ooo if you do I can just see him now looking so flashy in the show ring.

Ted is lovely, very sports horse type too. Lovely horses. Wish I had them both.

Being ID and IDx they will grow a bit more, but hunters in 3 year old classes often aree over the 16hh mark, judges seem to like them BIG this year. Our 2 year old which is about 15.1hh was told it is too small at the Highland show. The 3 year old is just over 16hh and its no way the biggest! They would make very nice workers though, and some judges are not obbessed with size :P
