How are you/ your horse coping with box rest

As title

This is for members who have their horses currently on box rest at least 3 months +

My mare is 2 days off 6 months box rest, she is coping exceptionally well, good natured not bargy trying to escape no vices .
Me on the other hand coping ok always worried giving myself migraines every time she hobbles a little more or takes a dodgy step.

Any one else not coping as well as their horse?

My mares been on box rest since 26th July resulting in surgery in Oct due to a torn tendon. Shes coped really really, well as she is a Shire X Cob and knows her own strength but shes not been bolschy, strong or barging to get out and hasnt picked up any vices at all. There was alot of people on my yard including the Yard owner that thought she wouldn't cope well at all with it but she has and I'm so proud of her! To be honest I think it has made our bond even stronger.
Me on the other hand am absolulty knackered! Lol. Its damed hard work having a horse on long term box rest, as I'm sure you know that feeling aswell.

What happened to your mare for her to be on long term box rest? Hope shes doing OK and healing/ getting better?

I have the vet out on Thurs to re scan her leg and am really hoping they say she can start going out in her field now, fingers crossed but to be honest Im in no rush as I quite enjoy her being in and all nice and clean and not having muddy feet etc... I do have a chuckle to myself when all the rest come in and they are filthy, absolulty caked in mud and listening to all their owners moaning and complaining about it all and having to wash it off etc and theres my mare all nice and sparkly clean lol

Hi she went lame on 11th July ( though lami started in april) not obvious till july when she went lame .

The list goes.



Laminitis + rotation x 2 + founder + protein loss + tape worm med count + abscess + inflammation of pedal bone.

Its been a long struggle with her sore / lame most of time.

Lami has stabilized 2nd rotation due to abscess which i poulticed till nothing more . bloods showed better protein no cushings .

but feet to long farrier and x ray wed.



In her favour she has

fantastic temperament
brilliant dad ( my hubby) who offered to pay all her bills
good vets
good farrier
help from some people on here
very hard feet
a mum who loves her with all her heart
a mum who will never give up.
she has the will to fight this
a mum who has done 99% everything right
deep bed/ bought hay soaker / all the right supplements ( founderguard, laminator, formula4 feet , flexijoint )
sensible head on her shoulders knows she is in for a good reason.
