A woman in Florence had a 'theraputic abortion' after two ecographs showed that her fetus had problems with its esophogus. It could have been corrected by surgery after the birth but she chose abortion. The fetus was aborted at twentytwo weeks-alive and perfectly healthy, for a premature baby. He was recovered in intensive care but died six days later of a stroke. I have no idea how the woman must feel. Im sorry, but for such a stupid malformation I would have carried full term. Mairi.

I try not to judge, what would be right for me wouldnt be right for someone else but have to say in that situation I wouldnt have even considered abortion.
And of course now she has to live with this forever, poor woman.

I cant understand it, in that situation if the ultrasounds had showed a problem I would have fought tooth and nail for the life and health of my baby. For the baby to be born healthy will increase the mothers guilt but the whole thing sounds strange to me, why abort for something that could be corrected at birth? How terribly, terribly sad for everyone. I bet its awful for the medical staff as well

Hi

I would have carried full term too. My mum (ok so my twin and I are now 25 so things were different then) was told that she could abort incase there was something wrong, incase we had spinabifida, but the truth of it was, we were twins and they didn't know I was there. My Mum said no way would she have had an abortion.

That was my mother's choice, although we were born a month early we were fine, perfectly healthy and 4lbs each. The lady concerned was probably told by doctors it would be best to abort.

I think whenever you had a baby (and I don't have any) you have to consider with your partner the fact that they may well be born with problems.
