How big does a horse have to be to do BE?

Well i was just wondering as I ahve jumped Sparky round a Intro course at ascot under wychwood the day after the event with only one stop at the last fence so thought before i sell him i could do an intro.... probably wont happen as i dont think he is big enough and he is still green.... but anyhoo will be an interesting thing to know

Not sure it's relevant as size isn't everything (ponies do it all the time) but how big is Sparky?

maybe i should get him measured at an event so he is tense and on his toes and hope he measures and inch bigger haha
unlikely i will do it though
 
Oh dear - you need someone more knowledgeable than me to tell you that. Think it also depends how old you are. Someone will know and reply soon

I *think* it used to be 148cm to be registered and compete above Novice and 142cm to compete on a day ticket, but I think they changed the rules so 142-148cms can be registered too, not completely sure though - it will probably say on the BE website. Don't think you have to have a height certificate though so if he's a full up 13.3hh you might get away with it? Fingers crossed you can BE Sparky, he's a fab pony!

148's can now do novice, ours does, but cannot go intermediate although she does sometimes schoo over Int fences.

I think it is above 141cm but you don't need a certificate and I have seen some that look a little small go round.

If the pony is upstanding and can do the job nobody asks questions.

To be fully registered, horses must exceed 142cm in height (without shoes) and be five years or over (6 in JRN classes). Ponies may only compete up to Novice level (N,ON,JRN,JN,N2DE,CIC*, CCI*).

When I was thinking of Lexington it was at the higher level, looks like your ponies will be fine at the lower levels
 
I think its absolutely ridiculous! Look at the likes of Stroller (who I know was a SJer) and presently Theodore O'Connor. If he was competed here in the UK, he won't be able to have done a 4* or compete at senior Championships. BE are so stupid!!!!
 
A rule change this year means that with permission good FEI ponies can now compete at intermediate and above. If you look on BDWP at Gatcombe's entries loads of them are in the intermediate. Libby Soley is now (I believe) keeping Noble Springbok to do juniors on, as this rule change also allows this.
