How big is too big?

My horse usually wears a 5 inch D-ring snaffle covered with hard rubber. Would going up to a 5 1/2 inch bit drastically change her perception of it or the bit placement in her mouth? Just bought a new bit that was the wrong size and I can't return it so I was wondering if there was anyway to salvage my lost money...

...but of course if you say it won't work I will gladly lose that 20 bucks and get the right size.

It is a big diff! If the 5 inch fits well then the 5.5 will be too big. I'd stick it on ebay if you are unable to return it then at least you don't need too loose your money on it.

Stick some bit rubbers on it, that will take up most of the difference.
