Is ther a formula or somethig to help you work out how big a youngster will be at maturity?
My just 2yo colt is 13hh at present , what sort of height should I expect him to mature at?
He is sec D , not bothered but curious. I'm sure someone told me humans are half their full height at aged 2 , just wondered if there is something like this for horses. No idea about mum and dad as the poor little soul is in his third home already.

hi someone once told me that the hight of the legs from floor to elbow is half the adult hight.
i did this with my horse when he was about 2 and came up with 17'hh he is now nearly 7 and is 16'3 so not far off.
measure from floor to elbow then double it -1 inch might give you some idea.
this might be just coincedence but it wasn't far of lol x

Well nt much help but pleased you put this post up as i have a 2yr old filly sport horse who is suppose to mature at 16.2hh i was told her mum was hanoverian x and dad was tb x cob (dnt nw how true) she will be 2 in july and she stands at about 15 hh now...however she doesnt look bum high and never has altho she has long legs ...
have tried the knee to coronet band but this comes out at 17 inchs which i doubt she could ever make!!

This question, or rather the answer drives me mad. I cant judge it at all, but I know a few people that would have kept horses for years, and my ex's dad is one of them. He always gets it right. My colouredd 3 year old is 14.3hh at the moment, he was about 13.2hh as a 2 year old, and he told me he'll make 15.1hh, which is about right, as he's not finished growing. My 2 yr old filly is 15hh, he reckons she'll make 16hhish, hope he's right on that one, I could go on, but he always gets it right, he can tell from a foal, if he knows the breeding. i'd love to have that knowledge!!!
From what I now know from him, and going on mine, with your pony's breeding, I think he'll be 14hh/141hh, but i'm sure I'll be corrected.
