From Racing Post online for those that are not members

'GODOLPHIN have launched an investigation into a fire at their Moulton Paddocks complex in Newmarket on Friday, which resulted in a two-year-old having to be destroyed.

Several fire-fighting vehicles responded to the incident, which started when the unraced youngster, named House Of Wisdom, was inside a hyperbaric chamber.

Despite the fire quickly being extinguished by Godolphin staff, none of whom were injured, House Of Wisdom was unable to be saved.

Simon Crisford, racing manager to Godolphin, said on Saturday: “We had a fire on Friday in a hyperbaric stall.

“Thanks to the vigilance of staff the fire was quickly dealt with but, very unfortunately, the two-year-old could not be saved.”
He added: “House Of Wisdom was undergoing treatment for a hind suspensory condition at the time.”

With regard to the inquiry, he said: “We have already commenced a full in-house investigation into this accident at Godolphin and the manufacturers of the equipment from Kentucky are already on site.”

A fire service spokeswoman reported: “There was an explosion in a medical chamber and a horse was put down by a vet.”

Equine hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the application of oxygen within a sealed chamber at pressures that are twice as high as occur naturally.

It is increasingly used to aid the healing process of soft-tissue injuries and surgery.'

Intriguing, never heard of one those being used before, wonder when my boss will get one!

Ooooh- bet that was messy, the poor thing.

My Oh said that if the explosion occured within the chamber and the horse was in there when it depressurised, then if probably wasn't a pretty ending for him.

Poor horse like others have said I really hope he didn't suffer.

Interesting that they use this on top footballers, I'm sure it would have made the headlines if one of them had been blown up in one of these things!

It's a diving bell pressure tank???
It is what they use to treat MS patients with, something to do with what is happening in the nervous system.
Thanks for the info........... sounds like maybe an oxygen tank exploded????

Gosh thats awful - tho hopefully the horse didn't have time to know what was going on.

My endurance friend sold her arab to Sheik Mohammed recently and got bomb checked when she dropped him off! Apparently his new stable was huge and the yard was really posh. She asked one of the grooms jokingly how they kept the yard clean and he replied 'oh we have a yard blower - don't u?' haha.

RIP poor horsey.
