Hi

I am trying to find a long term full loan horse but all the suitable ones are too far away from me and the owners will not let them move from their current yards.

Besides giving references how can I convince owners that I am trustworthy and won't disappear with their horse?

TIA

Just keep looking, i found my current loan through a friend and because of this she was happy to move the horse, just make sure as many people as possible know you are looking, it also helps if your yard is well known and respected (thats how i got my first loan - was advertised as 'leicestershire area' and when i phoned i told her where i was based and his owner wanted him to stay where he was, so i said ok, never mind. the next day she called me back and said she new my yard and liked it, and if i wanted i could come and try him - 3 weeks later the loan agreement was signed and he moved in)Also have you put any wanted adverts out? i got quite a few answers from people looking for a loaner as a result of putting adverts online and in tack shops(although i got most calls after i'd found my current mare - typical!) i think i got most answers from horsehunter.co.uk - good luck

I know someone who had couple from The Blue Cross, look on there website. Also BHS have some horses to loan I think.

Hi, it is hard. Loaners have to be very careful these days. The only thing I can suggest is that perhaps if you were planning on keeping the horse at a large, very well known local livery yard/riding school/equestrian centre and could get the owner of the centre to say they were happy to have the horse there this might give loaners confidence.

I loaned a horse from a rescue centre and found it brilliant, however most of the riding horses they loan out have some issues (either in management, work level or behaviour) so you would probably need to be a fairly confident owner to take one on.

I have a stable at a large yard in Berkshire and it's only a few minutes from my home which I have lived in for about 10 years. My trainer has said she will give me a reference and I know my vet would as I've been with him for over 3 years, do you think that would help?

I'm not an advanced rider but not a novice either and I have looked after horses before. I want the owner to keep in touch and would be very pleased if they would visit regularly. I don't mind a horse that has a problem as long as I know what it is first so that I can decide if I have enough experience to deal with it.

It seems that sensible horses between 15.2hh and 16.2hh are all out of my area. The closest charity is in Bristol but like the others I'm outside the distance they will consider.
