My 11 month old patterdale terrier has been spayed today (sorry if that is spelt wrong!) and she is really feeling sorry for herself. Just wondered if anyone had any tips for helping her feel more comfortable - the vets gave me some recovery diet for her to eat tonight but at the moment she won't even get up and keeps whimpering - is this normal? I can't bear the thought that I put her through this out of choice!!! :-(

Yes I expect as the anathestic wears off she feels a bit sore, have you got a really soft blanket or old duvet she can lie on, perhaps with a hot water bottle underneath. Whenever we used to feel poorly as children but couldn't explain why my nanny used to describe this as feeling 'all anyhow' and I expect this is how your patterdale feels

She has got a range of different lovely soft blankets and we are waiting hand and foot on her - just hate that she is feelinglike this as she is such a bouncy happy puppy!!! Poor Pickle is definitely feeling all anyhow!!

You sound like a lovely mum and she will feel better soon, operations take a lot out of them - you probably feel worse than she does

The whimpering following a anaesthetic is very normal....she will have been given adequate pain relief and sometimes they whimper and whinge due to sheer confusion when coming around....just as some humans thrash ans scream and shout when coming around....its not always necessarily pain.
Its also not uncommon for them not to eat either.....a comfy bed should help her to recove and she should be right as rain tomorrow.

Some dogs/breeds/sizes vary in recovery time.....so dont worry yourself.
Just thank your stars she isnt a staffy LMAO

Thanks all!! She has eaten some of her recovery food and wolfed it down - I was worried she was going to make herself sick so haven't given her much - but will give her bits little and often! She seems a bit brighter - I am just a big worrier!!!
