How can I make my trailer floor more grippy?

There is a steep hill that we have to tackle everytime we take one of the horses out. They always slip when we drive up it. So far none of them have falled over but it is always a concern of mine. All you can hear when we drive up it is the horse thrashing about trying to keep their balance.

There is already rubber matting on the floor but it doesn't seem grippy enough.

what type of surface is the rubber matting? i.e. is it striped or bobbled?
this sometimes makes a difference to how slippy it is. i think the bobbly surface is often more grippy and striped mats are more grippy if the stripes are acrosswards rather than front to back if you get my drift!

I always have a bit of shavings on top of the rubber. My cob drops one as soon as he gets into the trailer and it can get a bit slippery. He travels much better if this is just a bit for grip.

I now use EVA mats - the thick ones are quite "spongey" and the horses seem to have good grip ... Also have a sprinkling of megazorb on top (find it easier to clean than shavings!)

Agree with megazorb or pellets (that you wet and it expands) or even straw... rubber isn't actually that grippy when wet... infact it's lethal!
