my horse has recently had an accident and has a rather large wound on the front of his leg. hopefully its just superficial. has anyone been in a similar situation or have knowledge of a product that i can use to reduce the scaring. would love to hear from you!

thank you, i heard sea minerals.
wound had been stitched, has a flap of skin that when i change dressing tomoro, if its dying then it has to be removed, which could lead to large amounts of scaring that i'm concerned about.

If there's a large amount of skin loss then your ned might need skin grafts. These are usually taken as punch grafts from under the mane where it doesn't show. Tiny pinhead sized pieces of skin are "harvested" from the area under the mane and then these tiny pieces of living skin are placed as little islands on the area of wound that has no skin. In time they grow all together and the wound closes. My friends ned had this done and you could hardly see the scar or the area where the graft was taken from. If your ned's skin turns out to be healthy, and proud flesh isn't an issue, you could buy human products that minimise skin damage eg the cream that pregnant women rub on their bellies to stop stretch marks during pregnancy. Or after sun cream. Or cream to help eczema etc.

hey Joethy you finally registered on here!
Horsey looks happy in stable today he is such a brave boy.
Fingers crossed for minimal scarring as the flap doesnt seem to be dying yet all looks to be mending Fingers crossed for you both x

Hi Joethy,

With all the care and attention he is getting and that great box of first aid kit he wouldnt dare get any scaring !!

Good luck to you both, will keep fingers crossed that the vet gives good news later in the week.
