How can I settle her?

Mare came back off loan (disaster!) last Friday and really doesn't seem herself. She is in a field on her own but can see and touch other horses if they come up to the gate. When I first bought her, she was happy with this but now since she's come back off loan all she does is neigh to the other horses and stand at the gate. I guess she must be missing the horse she lived with while she was out on loan. When I stable her at night and she can't see the other horses, she will just stand at the door neighing rather than before when she loved coming in! She only starts munching her hay late at night.

I'm trying to put weight on her but feel that i'm making her stressed by stabling her when she obviously wants to be out at night? She goes out all day. Although when she is out in the day, i put hay out in the field for her but she doesn't touch it as she's too busy stood at the gate!

Now she has lived with the horse when she was out on loan, will she not want to be alone now?! She was perfectly happy being on her own when i bought her.

Having another horse/pony in with her is not an option otherwise obviously i'd do that.

Will she settle?

It sounds as if she has decided she doen't like being on her own anymore!

Can she not graze with the other horses?

None of my horses like being in the yard on their own, they scream the place down!!

But they will usually will be ok in the field on their own if they can see the others.

Sorry, not much help but good luck :)

Hi
I would put her out with the other horses, if you can..
or put a companion in with her,
my horses run as a herd, even though some come into work, they go back out when they are finished to their friends and this suits them best.
Im sure she would settle better, if you let her in with the other horses.
