I would give it a good scrub down and leave it too dry, when mine gets dirty, i just wipe it, but if it stinks(eww) , give it a good scrub! (or see what the label says :p)

I usually sponge mine with warm water if it gets grubby, but if it is smelly, a good airing or steam clean?

Also, just from a safety POV, how old is it? They're meant to be replaced every 5 years, and if it's second hand, might not be brilliant, unless you got it for an ultimate bargain price and are using it as a stop gap before getting a new one.

It's pretty new. A year old I think. The lady got a Point 2 so decided to sell it. I will get a new one soon but am dieting so thought I'd go 2nd hand til I lost 2 stone. I'll try a steam clean I think. I didn't realise how much it stinks as I tried it on at a farm in front of a cow shed!!! But it's rank and it stinks of BO :(

Funnily enough I finally couldn't bear the smell of my own well-worn race safe any longer last week- must be even worse when it's someone else's sweat!!

Anyway- hand hot water, a cloth or sponge and some washing powder/liquid- only get the smelly bits wet, give them a reasonable 'sloosh' and a bit of a scrub then let it air dry!

Mine has gone from seriously whiffy to smelling quite pleasant!

I've had it two years and never ride without it so you can imagine how rank it was- have been terrified to wash it for fear of ruining it, but it's survived just fine!!
