How chilled is your horse when you clip?

Just wondered really as when I clipped Pidge on Sunday afternoon he was dozing with a leg rested, very helpfully the one I was clipping at the time as otherwise I'd have to stand on the chair to get to the top of his hindquarters

Really appreciate it as poor sis has to have Sunny sedated to clip him

Mine stands without headcollar or anything and has a nap, and really loves me clipping the base of his withers (itchy spot!), but i know planty of horses who freak out!

A horse I used to have on loan would stand without a headcollar on even to have his head clipped!

Current ned is good to actually clip apart from near his ears (and this is improving every time) but absolutely sh**s himself every time you turn the clippers on!

very, though he oggles me welshie style he doesn't move a muscle which was much appreciated as I had to do some of it with the wrong arm on sunday.

he does seem to sulk the day after though!

palo mare is currently desperate for me to clip her, she used to hate them but has learnt that clpping= random pony nuts in her direction so has changed her mind

Old horse had to be twitched, loan horse ATM stands like an angel, just looks grumpy..but then he looks grumpy most of the time

QR- My horse is a royal loon & needs sedated to clip- really wish he would just stand, he's been clipped a few times a year for a fair amount of years. I have no idea why he hasn't got used to it. My pony eyes the clippers up like they're pony eating monsters but he stands pretty well dosen't let you clip his face though. Maybe he stands because he thinks they *will* eat him

lol

Pip is asleep the most time

As is Ginga

Pip doesn't like the bottom half of his face or lower legs being done, and really gets in a tizz about that

Very relaxed. I think the little vibrations of the clippers chill him out. He also is totally relaxed when the person who does him gets near his important bits and usually he's very funny about me looking at that area let alone when I have to give it a clean but he's fine with the humming clippers heading that way!

very

so much so he was the first horse that i have ever fully clipped!

he gets a little twitchy about his head, but fair enough lol

I always get someone else though to pull his front legs forwards for me to do his armpits

Star is not just chilled, but positively enjoys it

I haven't ever clipped Be as she's never grown much of a coat.

Pilfer (15) isn't very chilled at all- needs to be held by someone else and then twitched for anything in front of his shoulder.

Millie (5) was clipped out at the weekend, without a headcollar and stood like a rock for me. helped a lot i think by me carefully introducing clippers over a few weeks last winter; something i couldn't do with pilfer as he was already 9 and scared of clippers when i bought him

I've never clipped my current horse..though I suspect he might be 'ok' with it, but need holding for sure.

My last horse had to be sedated or he would try and kill everyone who came near him

I expected mine to be terrified of the clippers and need sedation but I brought some liveryman flair clippers and he seemed to enjoy the sensation,so plugged in the big clippers and although initially he snorted and worried about the noise he soon settled down and went to sleep. I managed to clip all his feathers off without anyone having to hold him at all.He just dozed off and didn't move a muscle. Considering 12months ago he wouldn't stand still to be groomed he has come a long way.

Big mare is, as usual, very chilled about it all. Flynn has only been trimmed so far, he's not been in enough work to justify clipping what is a very fine coat however he's desperate to get in on the act and last time I clipped the mare he escaped out under his stable chain and was trying to get his head in between her and me to be clipped.

We clipped 2 yesterday- 1 is a cob and used to clipping, he just stood there. The other was a new horse that arrived on loan the day before, didn't know if he'd ever been clipped so expected fireworks... the little chap fell asleep!!

Mine adores it. He's not keen on his head being done but will tolerate it if I growl. I do his neck and head first to get it out the way, then give him a haynet and he's in heaven. I clipped on Saturday and he was really itchy, he was trying to rub on the clippers! He loves being groomed and he loves the attention. People always comment on how amazing he's being when they walk past!

I do clip his legs out as he's got funny little bits of Suffolk feather, not proper feather, and he's not mad keen on that.

I clipped my 30 yr old last weekend no headcollar just stood in stable munching. His old owner many years ago used to twitch him for the whole clip, and have a few people at hand to hold him as he was not allowed to move a muscle whilst being clipped ! very bizarre, he is so good there's no need

Mine is a t*t quite frankly but it has nothing to do with being clipped, he just can't stand still for more than 5 mins!! LOL. Generally all ours our fine and relaxed. My pony used to be quite petrified and would shake and sweat but persistance and remaining calm with him helped and he hasn't worried since.

Have never had to have any sedated. My old pony used to love being clipped, especially when doing his chin and face!
