my horse is a very warm horse, very rarely has more than 2 rugs on (heavyweight and lightweight) if super cold. for example he has had his rambo duo with the 100g liner in all winter bar a couple of days when it was freezing and he never seems to be cold, where as other horses on the yard seem 2 have 3/4 rugs on at a time and 2 NZ's.

so is your horse a hot or cold one?

Ps hes the opposite of me, im always cold!!

fizz is a warm pony, jay is a cold lad. got 3 rugs on tonight

Unusual for tb but only has max 200 if not he overheats.Would boil in real heavyweight and he is clipped. We also live on the coast so not much snow but windy and cold.My welsh cob has same rug and she has grown full coat again after clipping.

Mine is normal! He's clipped & as it's mild tonight has a heavyweight FAL with neck cover & a duvet underneath. He'd be too warm tonight if I put his snuggys hood on too, & prob cold without the duvet. He is usually toasty warm as I wrap him up well.

Cropi feels the cold, she is out 24/7 with a field shelter, tonight its down to 3 with high winds and rain so she has on her h/w, medium stable rug and thin stable rug and she is toasty. During the day today she had on her h/w and the thin stable rug. All horses are different and feel the cold differently, i've tried cutting back on the rugs at the beginning of the winter but she literally shivers so I put on what she needs. Strangely enough though even when its down to 0 she is still ok in the same rugs.

c i thought mine was normal, its about 2-4degrees here and he has a heavyweightrug on, thats it. and all day hes just had his duo on. hes a hunter clipped ISH and hes perfectly toasty!

My boy is a freezer!! He has a hunter clip and has to wear a HW t/o with hood with a MW rambo t/o wug underneath, so spoilt!! In the stable at the mo he has a LW and 2 HW rugs,1 with neck cover, if it gets colder the he'll have a MW added...resembles a rhino when he's wearing all these!
The freaky thing is he hates exercise sheets so no matter how cold it is I have to hack him out 'naked' and he never makes a fuss about that!!

My mare a welshxtb never feels the cold and is clipped whereas my daughters pony a 14hh exmoorxarab is so thin skinned we have to keep her well wrapped up.

I have 2 who are total opposite. The 2 ponies are just normal, they never seem to get hot or cold! Whereas my Welsh D is definately a hot horse. He always sweats when ridden and never ever seems to get cold, he lives out hunter clipped with just a WB Orican with neck, no under rugs ever needed even in a blizzard. Ive seen him shiver ONCE. But my Luso x TB is a total woose, he shivered today within 2 minutes of taking his rug off! He is hunter clipped just now which makes him even woosier... even looking at rain will make him shiver (even in the summer!). He wears a Rambo Duo with warmest liner all winter, and during last weeks snow he also had on a full neck under-rug AND a stable rug (but only occassionally does he need this many rugs)! At shows, I have to warm up with a quarter sheet etc. on as well.

Mine is a TB and he's always warm. Even when it's windy and raining and the all the others are shivering, not him. He's usually in an Amigo medium weight (200g) and sometimes if its really bad a Rhino Plus (350g). Never has more than one rug on at a time. He's the last horse at the yard to be rugged and one of the first to be unrugged!!

two unclipped middleweights who live out 24/7, always rugged at night in winter either 200g or 400g , but only through the day if windy/raining. Have left rugs on through the day in the past when no wind or rain and they have both wriggled out of them (how do they do that !!!). Causes problems if weather is mixed in one day.
