How could she?

Mentally ill?

That isn't an excuse, but she was living in those conditions herself. That's not normal behaviour. I realise there is no mention of it in the report, and that the court would have had access to medical reports, so it's possible she's just a horrible person. At least there is a lifetime ban - something that has been sadly lacking in some of the criminal cases of animal abuse and neglect I have read about.

I will never for this life of me, understand how anyone can knowingly and purposefully neglect an animal in their care. People really do suck sometimes

Have read varying reactions to this by people who knew/trained with/sold dogs to her, ranging from pity over her mental health/personal difficulties, threats to stone her to death and people who said they had visited her and her dogs less than a decade ago in squalor and yet did nothing/told no one.

Just feel very sorry for the dogs.

I can’t understand the people who visited her, and saw the dogs . I thought better of them 😡

I don't think people neglect animals for the fun of it, animal hoarding and neglect are usually the result of serious mental health problems combined with isolation and no support. It's a sad reflection of society. It is right that the woman is punished and banned from keeping animals (because it IS awful, she WAS wrong to do those things, and those poor dogs are innocent victims) but I hope she also gets the help she needs.

There's plenty of disordered people who do do intentionally cruel things to animals though so maybe she was one of them but more often than not the extreme neglect of a large number of animals as well as living in squalor signifies a loss of control which speaks, to me anyway, of someone suffering deeply with their mental health rather than someone with an intent to cause harm.

Any person who had contact and did nothing to help the dogs (and the woman) out of this mess has to shoulder some of the blame. I do not know anything or anyone in this case but from the posts above it seems people did know and left her to it?
