How did you choose your hunt?

Is there only one option local to you, or are there many? If the latter, how did you choose?

I have loads round me :) and am going to try a few days with other hunts, as I have friends who go out with others and it will be fun to experience different packs.

I do feel a bit bad though, almost unfaithful, as my first choice of hunt has been so fab at nursing us through the crazy stage!!!

So how did you all choose?

There are lots around here but I went back to the pack I'd been out with a few times before I moved away, when I moved home again. Yard is right in the middle of the country as well so it made sense. He isn't hunting now but because I only go a few times a season, I wouldn't tend to bother going anywhere else. I know a few of the subscribers go for odd days out with other packs though, plus they're often out with other packs by invite so you'd get a chance to see some other country.

We have lots of hunts around us to. I hunt with the wilton as thats who my boss hunts with so i have to. But i find them so friendly and they have a non jumping field and as i hunt and lead a 6yr old child this is very helpful as theres always someone to show us round jumps and who has a key to all the gates  . I know alot of people who have days with other hunts, no one mindes. (except with my last hunt one of the masters went out with another pack when they where ment to be field mastering and no other masters where out that day so as you can guess that went down well)
Hope you are enjoying your hunting. We're having our first day since boxingday on sat    i can't wait (rushes round touching all wood she can find)

The one which was the most fun and had the most convenient meets. As one hunt kennels the hounds just down the road but never seem to have meets anywhere near us.

I liked that they have a smaller field and I'd been to see them move off the previous season and they'd seemed very friendly and relaxed, so when they advertised a hound exercise locally we went - and they're fab, but now i've got into a bit I would like to go out with some of the other local hunts to see how they are.

I am in the middle of 3 hunts and have another 2 within ok traveling distance. But I hunt with the one I hunt with because my boss is one of the Masters.

there are a few round me, but I grew up hunting with the Bilsdale, and even after a bit of a break when I was at Uni when the hunt went through some big changes, the hunt continues to be so friendly, and I wouldn't want to regularly hunt elsewhere.

I love the people, the countryside and, obviously, the hunting that gives us.

gamebird and runtoearth -

is the Master's son a bigamist in the making??

I didn't want to hunt fox so that ruled out three and left me with 2 drag and 1 bloodhounds. The bloodhounds meet the furthest away so they were out. Then I chose the friendlier of the two drag packs.

Hi Skewby. I was born in one hunt country and I'll hunt there 'til I die. But I've learnt a lot from visiting other packs. It's not disloyal to do so and just see how your neighbours get on. And have a bloody good time.

We only have a couple of hunts here, the nearest are a foxhound pack and the bloodhounds, I prefer the bloodhounds as there is less standing around and we usually only go for a couple of hours.

But, we go with whoever are out closest to home really as I don't like travelling too far.

I basically got roped in to going with the yard, who do hirelings for one pack. I've now ended up subbing to this pack as there's always people I know out and its easy form where I am. Before being where I am now, I hunted with the bloodhounds and TBH REALLY REALLY miss it. Local fox hounds just don't compare! I'm hoping to get a few sneaky sundays in with the bloodhounds this season.
