How did you pay for your horse?

cash as they didnt have to declare it and pay tax (shhhhhh

) just get a receipt from them

I think a seller would have to be mad to let you pay anything more than a deposit by cheque.

So I guess cash or bank transfer, safest really is cash as you hand it over and take the horse. Bank transfer you can't really know that you are handing the money over at the same time as the horse.

Think about an unscrupulous buyer/seller being dishonest you could pay your money and they could not hand over the horse or vice versa you could take the horse and the payment could bounce.

Cash, wire transfer, cheque.

Depends what the seller wants.

I prefer to be paid by cash, but will take cheques if the horse stays here until it goes through obviously. That is as simple as going into town, giving the cheque to the cashier and by the time I get home and check online the money will have been cleared. None of the stupid three day wait for cheque clearance you used to get in the UK.

Paid cash - Farra was vetted, paid for and shipped the next day - friend and I travelled to Scotland with a grand down each boob

Paid deposit via bank transfer for Stinky and then the balance in cash when I picked him up, ditto Fleur.

Breeze - I had her on loan, so sent a cheque.

Cash or bank transfer only, whichever the seller prefers. No one in their right mind would accept a cheque when selling a horse. Too many dodgey people out there unfortunately.

I will have to pay the deposit by bank transfer due to the distance the horse is away from me but the rest I thought cash would be prefered, i just dont like the idea of carrying that much around when i go to get it from the bank!

Cash, they didnt even check it because they trusted me, did me a receipt and off I went.

they have been trying to track me down ever since!

only kidding

Bank transfer, although in the past I have also used bankers drafts. I only pay cash if the horse is under £200, as I don't trust myself enough not to loose it!!!!!!!!!

Cash.

I sold a pony a couple of years ago and the lady paid by cheque - what a nightmare - it was 9 days before the bank cleared it - she was livid at having to wait, but I wasn't letting him go til the money was there!

A friend bought a pony and paid cash and had to go to the bank with the seller so that the seller could ask the bank to check all the notes!

I have always brought horses with cash - my dad is self employed and nearly always has cash around - so I will often give him the cheque to pay, or transfer it to his account, and then give the cash to the seller.

Quite a few of the horses i Have sold have been paid for with a cheque - I have always waited for them to clear before letting the horse move home. The last horse I sold the lady came to the vetting, and gave me a cheque as soon as the vetting was over!

Cash all the way for me

Same when I sell a horse, I will only accept cash (I used to work in a bank so also know how to check the notes and count money quickly

)

I think the most I have ever spent on a horse is £5k but to me that isnt a lot of cash due to seeing so much at the bank

It looses its impact after a while, it is just bits of paper
