Howie has the easiest, doable, trainable, sane and obliging attitude as a 17 month old colt and I am hoping this will be the same as he turns into an adult- but I wondered if they become naughty/silly/less brave etc as they grow up or do they take their youngster traits with them?

My three year old newforest was 6 months old when i bought him and he was a total THUG he was too be honest not a nice baby. Now he is very loving and loves to be with you he likes being groomed as a baby grooming was life threatening! honestly he was really silly, glad i perseveared with him he is a changed man.

i've found that my geldings maintained the same sort of temperament (if they were nice babies they were nice adults) but 3 of my fillies were quite horrible as 2 yr olds, went a bit feral (in spite of handling!), but improved enormously as 4 yr olds and became really nice adults! e.g. one of my current 4 yr olds was an absolute witch as a youngster, i had to warn everyone not to go near her hind end in the field, she would kick you as soon as look at you (and got quite a few tubtrugs chucked at her for her pains), but now she's really nice and totally safe to walk behind.
i've never had one get worse as it got older, put it that way... hope your lad stays lovely!
