How difficult can it be?

So I'm slowly starting to look to buy a new horse but am kind of shocked at how difficult it is to find a young 14.2+ mare welsh sec d or sec d cross for sale with decent conformation. Have seen loads of geldings and colts but not many decent mares or fillys.

Anyone else found this or am I looking in the wrong place??

The best fillies are quite often retained by the studs as future brood mares. Having said that you can still find them. Either source from the studs direct or try Horsequest or HorseGossip.

And be prepared to pay - conformationally correct mares (pure) are out there, but because of breeding potential will be priced accordingly.

Agree with Faracat as well, go to their homeland :D

Forgot to ad only have limited budget but for right one would travel. I just presumed that with the current market being as it is more would be cheaper than usual.

Another thing, is anyone else finding that the classifieds on HHO isn't working or is it just mine??

There was an article in H&H the other day about the market for Welshies picking up - apparently there is quite a demand overseas which is driving up the price. Good luck with your search :)

Am searching all of southwest. Seems some sites include parts of welsh border but not other when using southwest as a region

OK so my next question would be how far would be too far to go to view a horse. Out of about 100 mares and fillys that I have seen, there is only one that I like within my budget but is a good 4 hours away (1 hour if I go to stay at my dads). Bearing in mind im not spending 1000's more like 100's

Perhaps the problem lies with your taste being above your budget.:D
I have that problem !
Poorly put together horses are cheap, quality horses are not, no matter what the current market is.

HR I think you have hit the nail on the head right there! :D I didn't think I was being to fussy so long as it was a mare 14.2+ welsh d of some sort with half decent conformation.
