I am looking for a bombproof, barely has a pulse, hairier and uglier the better, 10-15 yr old 15.1 hh to 15.3hh thing for my OH and I can't find one anywhere!!!! Anything I do find theya re looking for about 4k plus for them.

what is going on!!!!!

The trouble is what you are looking for is what loads of people want - a weight carrying, hardy, patient-as-a-saint plod. They are like hens teeth and priced accordingly. I bought a smashing pony a couple of weeks ago and they had a lovely heavyweight ploddy type for sale, but he was £3995.

we can't find either a bombproof hack (but we dont want ugly!!) or a decent junior eventer and we haven't a tight budget either!

have you tried riding schools/RDA? I have noticed recently some riding schools selling some horses as they have basically done their time in the school and are bored (well that's what the ads say anyway!)

As mentioned though - getting a horse that is as you require is what so many others like so if as a seller you know you have one you know you can ask a high price for it!

My friend is selling her mare. 16hh 12yrs warmblood. used as riding club / brood mare when we brought her.

however she taught my freind to ride - quite literally gaynor cant ride AT ALL she just got on on plodded around. she has just stared to canter her.

however she will do XC, comes down onto bit, great off leg, soft mouth etc, great on roads, box etc. only thing we havent done is clip her as gaynor just plods about.

Gaynor had a serious op a while back and was out the saddle for 4 months, when she got the all clear from the doc, she tacked up and went for a hack!!! Cleo was an angle for her even after 4 months of just eating.

she is open to offers around 3k including all tack - (stubben jumping saddle) as she is a lovely mare just very unschooled (and fat!) due to beginners riding her.

she is only for sale as gaynor is a single parent with 4 kids and cant cope, she did try to find a sharer but no replies.

I agree that a weight carrying bombproof horse is worth it's weight in gold. I'd ask around and place ads locally - he or she will be out there somewhere! Good luck

they are about, we bout a 16.3 warmblood for my hubby. ex eventer ended up in some horrid dealers yard,

he is the most forgiving gentle bomb proof horse ive met, yet with a proper rider on is capable of flying changes and popping 4 foot, we paid 2k for him, i have to admit if i sold him it would be for a lot more, as hes now a proven beginners horse, but my point is they are about,

it when you add cob into it the price shoots up. but imo a big well built horse of any breed is capable of carrying a bit of weight.... unless your planning on doing 8 hour hacks etc!

Maybe the market is a just a bit different over here but I have found loads that are under 15 hhs or over 16hh. Horses are definately (in my opinion

) cheaper over here in Ireland. everything I am finding is about 3500 euro upwards. I also find, which is to be expected when someone is selling something, everything is glammed up and is just too good for what I want. I am literally looking for a complete plod.

rding schools is an option, rescue something from the bordem of the riding school - I must contact a few but i think they have the pick of the market cos anything that is for sale will be picked up by clients of the school. Will give it a go though.

Just to say, didn't mean to sound mean say ugly, 5 star home waiting for the plod when we find him. I just mean, I don't want anything that has been dolled up like the horses I have sen so far, OH loves them "au naturale" the hairier the better in his eyes. He is a complete softy when it comes to animals, you could give him the choice between the most stunning eventer and a hairy cob and he would go for the hairy cob every time. He is not a fan of a flashy animal!!!!

LOl I know a 14.05hh piebald mare, hairy, cobby wieght carrying, totally bombproof, will plod if you are nervous, step up a gear if you want, £3500
