How do horses know?

My boy can be a right grumpy bum. Never nasty, he's just not the loving type shall we say! Hates being cuddled etc, but will tolerate a minute of wither scratching on his terms

Anyway, i'm having a rough week and all i've thought about today was a great big, hairy pony hug. And he obliged! About 15 times! Proper long cuddly hugs. He didnt walk off, or pull a face, just let me hug him and moan

He will be back to his grumpy self tomorrow though.

But how do they know when you need them? x
