Hi
Please could some one advise me on what GCSE grades and A level's I would need to take to become a vet.
Also how much work experience do I need?
Thanks.

GCSE's - all A's and A*, preferably A* in sciences. When I applied, 5.5A* was considered the minimum, but I only got 4 and got in to 3 uni's so GCSE's aren't the be all and end all.

A-levels - at least 2 sciences. Liverpool ask AAB with A in biology required, the others generally offer AAA with A in chemistry required, though RVC sometimes offer AAB. Your 3rd subject needs to be academic - a 3rd science or maths is prob best, but something like english is ok too.

Work experience - Liverpool have the highest requirements, and they ask for 10 weeks in total, 4 weeks at a mixture of veterinary practices (ie farm, equine and small animal) and 6 weeks 'on farm'. The most important things for this are probably lambing and dairy work, but also stuff like kennels/catteries, studs, pig farms etc. If you have spent a lot of time around horses don't spend loads of time doing more - I didn't do any extra horse work, just explained in my personal statement that I kept my horse on DIY and helped at that yard alot The idea of work experience is to show that you have an idea of the different industries, and don't just expect to be playing with cats and dogs or horses.
