how do I clean my horses dangley bits?

I'll try not to be crude here but my geldings undercarriage is rather unclean and I need to tackle this however as soon as he is "relaxed" if I go near it with a sponge it gets quickly put away again! short of grabbing it which I am sure he won't probably won't like any one got any techniques for this delicate operation.!!!

Yes Im afraid it is a matter of getting your hand and arm up there!
*Rubber gloves on
*Warm antiseptic water in a bucket
*Soak hand and stick it up there!

First time I did it I had to go to the pub and have a massive glass of wine after!
 
Just a quick question whilst on the subject...my gelding is really clean around that area, is it still neccesary to clean it???

Yes unfortunately it is very important to do it maybe as often as every few months!!! Seroiusly it will go up to your elbow! Just get hold of the end and try gently to pull it out. If it wont come out just clean it while it is still up there!

Wet sponge and lots of rummaging!!!! Sadly I think all mine quite enjoy the experience

I don't think buddy would let me do it...when brush under his belly he tries to wack me in the face with his tail, god knows what he would do to be if i decided to go and clean that area!
 
Blimey! I have no problems with it at all!

My Mother and sister refused point blank to ever clean a sheath, but I was always up for it!

If you're brave, don't bother with a glove, you can't really feel what you're doing all that well, and I'm prone to pulling lumps of smegma out just to give a good clean.

Best combination is babyoil about 4 days before you clean it properly, as all the smegma and dry skin softens and is easier to remove.

I am also known to spend hours cleaning between mares udders... same thing really... one of my mares used to cow kick every time I really got in there though, used to take forever to clean!
 
I had a pony who couldn't dangle his bit more than a few inches, so it was an inside job from the start. I agree that gloves are irritating but I have to come clean and say it does take a while to get your nails clean if you don't use them.
What no-one has yet owned up to - but I will - is that in hard water areas some horses get semi-hard lumps form in the end of their penis and this will make them spray their wee all over their stomach if not extracted. Be very gentle, use lots of oil (I prefer sainsburys baby gel as it doesn't run down my arm) and ensure you clean the sheath from the outer bits in so as not to carry stuff into the depths of the sheath. I use baby wipes to clean the outer bits of his sheath and me and then go home for the big glass of wine.
PS The shop sheath cleaner didn't impress me.
