I need a horse to suit a very nervous rider in London. I found an irish draft horse that was used by para dressage rider formerly and he was perfect but he failed the vet badly. I cant find anything esle with the same safe feeling that horse gave my client and yet still be fun and able to pop a very small course of fences. Its tricky finding a bombproof horse that will still jump and look smart.

Anyone got an ideas. Im open to all suggestions about where to look, even dealers who might have such a type?

All comments/suggestions welcome? Im based in Surrey but will look anywhere even ireland?

Thanks
Lisa

There was one for sale in Herts on Facebook yesterday, think it may have been on the BD page. Can't remember the rider's name but Lee Pearson had ridden it and commented. Will have a scan through FB 2moro for you if you can't find it.

How about trying The Cob Company? Lia always seems to have a good selection of solid cobs that have done a lot of bombproofing work.

How about equine colleges that may be having a clear out? It could be worth giving them a call.

This is what I was going to say. When my old mare was at Hartpury she was used by one of the younger students for para dressage but also, the college received a call from a 67yr old lady who was wheelchair bound with MS. She competed in able bodied competitions despite not have any use of her legs, but she rode side saddle. Teasle had never had a side saddle on, but the lady got a saddle fitted and I tried her out in it for a few weeks, having specific lessons and Teasle, as she did with everything, took to it like a duck to water. They competed together until the lady could no longer ride.

I think Equine colleges often get forgotten in this way, but actually, the horses, generally speaking have had a few terms at least of constant, mostly correct work, great care, exposure to many situations etc and I think it is always worth consideration.

Hi, I found a perfect, sensible para horse on loan this year - I put up wanted adverts on the BD and Horsequest pages, I'd recommend trying the adverts and making sure you put exactly what you're looking for. It took me quite a few months to find the right horse but there will be the right one out there - good luck
