Have got a Bates caprilli saddle to try from saddler but don't know whether its close contact or not. Is there any way to find out - not sure whether he knows either!! Is there some kind of stamp telling me?

Close contact saddles are often more forward cut and therefore you can buy numnahs specifically for them.

If you pop it on, maybe where your numnah is sitting may give you a clue???

Ah well - Roma sheepskin numnah sits fine as does my nuumed one in the front. Can lift up girthstraps.

Haven't got anything to compare it to with regards flatter panels and less gullet. I can get three fingers in the gullet if that's any help?!!!

It should have a square cantle if it's a CC, the GP caprilli has a round cantle.

ditto, if you look on that link you can see a clear difference between the two, it looks like the Wintec CC but in leather basically.

Brill - thanks. Will find out when get home. Don't really want a CC for riding a baby horse everyday. Thought they were supposed to be for just going xc or sj not every day riding. Any thoughts?

I don't know to be honest, I've asked the same question to two different saddlers, folks on here and my RI, all with different views.

One said if the saddle fits well, doesn't matter if its CC or not (saddler and RI), another said CC saddles should only be used really for jumping because that is what their designed for and you wil only benefit from them when jumping (another saddler), and a few people on here have said either of the above and also said they use them for everyday schooling and jumping.....so I'm none the wiser I'm afraid! lol

if the saddle fits it should be fine.

i ride in close contacts for hacking etc and they are fine and my backman is very happy with my horse's backs.
