Going over to my aunts in the states this summer and she's got a few events lined up for me and if im doing XC i'll obviously need my back protector. She may have one i can borrow but if i did want to take my own how do i take such a bulky piece of clothing?

I did suggest to mum i wore it onto the plane, but she pointed out i may get a few odd looks :)

just stick it in your hand luggage or suit case, ive had my skiing helmet in my hand luggage before but that was a few years ago.
hehe give the air port a ring and see what your allowed....?

I was flying down south to try horses last month and needed to take my hat, wasn't fussed about my bodyprotector.

I had a good giggle to myself. If I walked onto a plane with my Skull Cap, Goggles and Body Protector on and declared that I was just taking precaustions as I was scared of flying do you think I would have been chucked off the plane or had every single person on the plane with half an inkling of being scared of flying getting the hell off as fast as possible?!?

The idea amused me a great deal and I was very tempted to try out the theory and see which answer I got! :D

Just stick it in a suitcase or take it as carry on. Some airlines you will have a 2 piece checked allowance anyway for long haul (BA don't though - they used to). If it's carry on ask the cabin crew nicely and they'll hang it up for you. I brought a print back from Alaska all bubble wrapped and card backed. It fitted down the side of my window seat on Alaska Airlines and BA over the pond, then BA internal up to here the cabin crew looked after it for me :-).
