I have been advised by my vet to bath my boy from head to toe every 3 days - he has a hunter clip & lives out he cannot be stabled at the moment.

So my question is this, is the best way to dry him off as much as i can with towels, and pop his waffle rug on to take off any excess while he has dinner & some hay before putting his T/O rug on and putting him back out :o

Ideas anyone???

I'd use a polar fleece or a Thermatex if possible. And use a turnout rug which is breathable and wicks - FAL, Bucas or something like that. So that he doesn't catch a chill whilst drying off.

Poor lad, and poor you, that's quite a thing to have to do every 3 days. How long will you have to do that for?

ISHmad -ive got a fleece rug, not sure if its a polar fleece tho, have just bought him new t/o rugs he Axiom ones off e-bay, think theyre breathable and have full necks in, they keep him very toasty warm.

Hopefully the bathing wont be for too long, the vets are going to look at him Tuesday and take skin scrapes and possibly blood tests - bad mummy thought he'd had sweet itch all summer and now he's been clipped out its obvious it wasn't and looks more like a dermatits type of thing

My Mum's dermatitis was caused by water (she was a potter so had wet hands all day) so do monitor him after the washing. Her docs were amazed when they did patch tests for various different household allergens (bleach, soaps etc) and the only one she reacted to was the 'control' patch which was just water!

I find that my Mark Todd Coolex rug with neck gets my pony dry quickly after a bath, leave him in for a couple of hours and he is dry and he has a fairly thick coat where not clipped.

I think they do a turnout rug with the Coolex lining too?
