How do I get this Horse Drinker to work ....

We have automatic waterers but a different design to your one. On ours there is a removable plate on the front which covers the inner workings. Inside there is a little ballcock like you get in a loo cistern. This has to be screwed up or down depending on the water level required. It may be that yours has been preset at 'no fill' so I'd say have a look at that if yours has that option. Otherwise, call the manufacturer!

Just a thought - did you turn the mains back on after plumbing it in??!

Thanks for your help :)

On this model, you cannot get at the gubbins, which I did not notice when I bought it today ....

To test it tonight I attached my powerful hose to it, in the garage and checked water was coming out of the hose .... oh well, it may have to go back then :(

Where is the ballcock situated ATM?

I can get my hand in to tighten up the arm attached to the ballcock, but as soon as I do that it stops working at all! If I wanted to remove it all, then the ballcock is too big to get out of the gap anyway and then I may have a disaster happen!

I have emailed the maker, but not heard anything .... if I do not not get it sorted by Friday, it is back to Scats for me and it!

I cannot be doing with products that only work when they want to

Hi!

My first post here so just found yours! Did you get your water trough sorted? I fitted three of these for visiting mares the other day (I'm male) and agree they are a pain to set up. I burnt the ball cock out on another thawing it out over winter with a blow lamp and it is even more fun (I don't think!) trying to fit a new float! The float (ball) needs to be a small one as the regular size won't fit.

The trick is to loosen the nut that holds the ball to the arm. I think you'll need a 10mm spanner from memory. Tighten it up again with your fingers so you can still (just) slide it up and down the arm. Turn on the water. Now, very carefully slide the ball up and down the arm so the water is still JUST flowing in but raising it slightly turns the water off (about 1/2 inch movement up and down). Turn off the water at the stop cock and tighten the nut up with the spanner. Turn on the water and check that the trough does not over fill. A bucket to remove excess water will be useful. Have fun! PM me if still having problems.
