How do I give the illusion of a ponytail or bun?

Sounds like a stupid question, I know.
Basically, I have short hair and a flat chest so I often get mistaken for a boy when I'm showing (So embarrassing...) So I wondered if there's anything out there like a false bun that makes it look like I AM A GIRL. It's starting to get annoying now :(

Thanks, Catherine x

Know the feeling! i had the same issue when wearing my skull cap, even though i have long hair i looked like a boy with a ponytail! I've now bought a blue velvet hat instead and pray that i finally may not be pointed out as 'the boy on the chesnut with the long hair'!

All i can think of is one of those show bow things that clips on your head and fill it with one of those fake hair 'things' from claires accessories or something like that.

Just looked on ebay and theirs a world of hair buns on there!

You can buy false ponytails, but it depends how short your hair is, as they have to have something substantial to tie onto... You can also get temporary hair extensions which attach to your hair with little combs, they sell them in claires accessories.

Otherwise a couple of oranges in your bra. LOL

I used to take a bit of horse tail and wrap it round itself and put a plaiting band on it,then secure it in the back of a hairnet for a fake bun.Dont think it would work with a grey though :D

Would a couple of chicken fillets not do the trick?

Edited cos I just noticed someone recommended oranges for the same effect!

to make a false / fuller bun
get an old sock and cut of the end then rolldown tightly till you reach the end to make a ring
tie hair into a pony tail place sock over top of bobble
then spread hair to hind the sock and tie with another bobble to lock all hair in place, cover with hairnet and scrunchie/ribbon

I used to have really short hair & compete side saddle. I bought a stretchy nylon knitted type hair bad thing (can't remember what it was actually called but I'm sure you can still get them) & a false bun ring ( like a ring donut) I sewed the bun ring on to the brown hair band , I have brown hair, and put about 6 fine brown hairnets on top. then really scraped my hair back (works best if it's not freshly washed) put hair band on with bun in correct place under hat at back & covered whole head with 2 or 3 more fine hairnets. Add any ribbon / scrunchie you like (frowned on in side saddle). Works a treat & stays in place.

A couple of people I know wear false pony tails when they compete. No idea where they get them from tho.

That's great, thank you - but I barley have an inch of hair at the back to tie anything like a bobble to :(

I've seen false pony tails fall off, not nice for the person concerned. Padded bra might work. Better still, ignore the comments, you'll grow soon enough.
I find that a bright red lippy, [the kind that stays on come hell or high water] helps, also wear rouge and a very obvious make up, this is a show and you can go a bit over the top.
We always used to stuff bras with cotton wool when out on the town, I can imaging a slight embarassment if oranges popped out one at a time.

Might do both those tricks... They sound the least likely to go wrong :S

If you really want to get creative you could try attaching a false pony tail to your hat - I think some mothers have been known to pre-attach ribbons to kids hats for showing!

I was only joking with the oranges. Imagine them falling out and landing in front of a judge.

Actually, I'm not joking. I'd pay to watch that.

Easy, get yourself to Peacocks and buy the false hair extensions, a pack will cost you a fiver, then go to Boots or Super Drug and buy one of those donuts bun things, weave the false hair around it so its all covered then clip to your hair with hair grips, then bob a hair net over your head including the bun, then a bubble, scrunchie or plain band around it but also around the bow that is on your hat if you want, it won't fall off as its already in your hair net.
