Hi, I want to have a go at making my own hay steamer using a wheelie bin and a wallpaper steamer. From reading some previous posts people have drilled a hole in the wheelie wall near the bottom and inserted the wallpaper steamer hose..then what do i do? does the hose have to be a certain length? do i reattach the wallpaper steamer plate once its inside the bin? do I have to make some kind of shelf for the hay to sit on? and will the bin take a whole bale of hay? how long do I steam the hay for? and will the steam be distributed enough just by coming out the single pipe? sorry for all the questions..ive never done this before. Any advice will be very much appreciated xx

Yes if you use a wheelie bin and you are only steaming for one horse at a time you will need a shelf or rack to put the hay at least halfway up the bin. You put the hose through the hole and then just reattach your steamer plate. Hose usually comes with steamer so is already a certain length. Plug in and steam. Personally I don't think the wheelie works half as well as the normal black bin method set up just minus the shelf inside. Much more contained and steams more quickly. I do four big slices in a black bin with a wallpaper steamer and after an hour it is beautiful. Get a timer plug so it is ready when you get to the yard.

I use a larger barrel. And don't reattach the steamer plate. I put a little hook either side at the top of the barrel to hang the net from and can do a jumbo net. C. 40 mins.
