...my current farrier that his services are no longer required? This is not as straight forward a question as first appears. When my husband finally brought his cob home from livery, he insisted I gave up my farrier and we both used his. I had no problem with that and have been using this farrier for a number of years now. He has never let us down and is infact always early. He has never been impatient or lost his temper, always explains anything we ask about, and generally a great guy.
However, he is almost 70 and it is starting to show in his work, and all my mares hooves have become quite bad so I have been wanting to get a new farrier for more than twelve months now. Then TheFarrier visits and decides to move down.
I am delighted, I have seen The Farrier work. But I have to tell my current farrier, which is made harder by the fact that my husband insists on continuing to use him until he actually retires.
I'm dreading it.

Thanks Fazzie. I have been sitting on this for a month now. I guess I must just be honest and tell him straight, but he is such a lovely guy. *sigh*

my bl**dy farrier is a nightmare, asked him to put road nails in my coblets front and back shoes, would only agree to put in the back and we've been slipping everywhere, got to call him and tell him I DO need fron road nails!! grrr

Its hard, but if i remember you said to me you were had told him you were concerned about their feet? If he already knows that does it make it easier to tell him?

As your girls are smaller it is harder for an older farrier to bend so far and hang on

ive seen this a few times.

We cant wait although its quite nerve wrecking do you think now is the time to put an add in the paper? And which ones

Yes I have done, but I think he thinks he has convinced me they are fine, have also mentioned this new farrier.

best choice of newspapers down here would be the Western Morning news (they also do a special horse day, think it's Friday) and the West Briton. You can find them both on www.thisiscornwall.co.uk Neither are cheap, so hold on if you are already building a useful list.
Can't wait for you to start re shaping their tiddly little hooves, we will hold Pebbles in the air for you
