i do have leassons with an experience instructor but she puts me on a lunge and he gose over it beautifully when she takes me off she has to case behind me with a lunge whip!!

I would do more flatwork with him to teach him to move off your leg. Maybe when this is a bit more established he may be more willing.
Maybe lunge him over some small fences without a rider to give him a little confidence

Build his confidence over small jumps, but don't sour him by doing too much of the same thing or knocking his confidence by asking him to jump too big.

He could be worrying because he has not yet completely worked out how to carry a rider, and probably won't have developed the relevant muscles.

So, work on developing his 'fifth leg' as we used to call it. Lots of off road riding over uneven ground. Going for an off road hacks with rutts and ditches achieves far more than a load of trotting poles or cavaleti, its much more fun for the horse too. Years since peopel would have told you to take him out hunting for all these reasons. Carry on schooling on the flat, pay particular attention to transitions because this is where they develop balance.

work on the canter first , lot of cobs very heavy on forhand he needs to learn to lift it to jump,

just read the whole thread, think you answered your own question, hes being lazy and taking the p. as said work on transitions, he must respond to your leg!

Have you tried loose jumping him, so he can get his confidence over jumps and sort his legs and balence out before he has a rider?
