so im free lunging ebs atm just to get her out and get some engry out too, i was just wondering what i can do to make it a bit more fun?
no jumping in dont want to jump her
and i cant lunge her on a line atm because mines gone missing and im not using anyones elses

Do some join up?, perhaps won't take any excess sparkle out of her but will help with your bond and focus her mind on something, could be fun and if it works well, you can both run round the arena together, even bob over some jumps :D

Go for a walk/jog with her, keeps both of you fit and it's different.

Don't mean this in a horrible way at all, but surely if you want to get excess energy off her your best bet is to lunge/ or long line? I think you won't achieve anything with your mare by free lunging.

Lunging correctly with the right gear could also help you get her round and working properlly in the school and hence giving you more control so you won't have to free lunge her before you ride.

Sorry for the rant at you but I just do not see much point in free lungind except over a jumping lane as a much better effect can be achieved through lunging, and you can get a lunge line for like £6 so its not like you have to fork out loads of money to do it.

Why is it, that when people make decent, helpful suggestions, you immediately come up with some excuse as to why you cannot do it? Not just on this thread, but on just about all of yours!

sorry, but i agree.
i know you said you have no money, and trust me i know how that feels, but like Kokopelli said they're only like £6, and honestly even when you can ride Ebony again lunging her will make a big difference if you do it properly :)

A few posts ago you were wanting to buy a new horse, now you can't afford a lungeline?

Are any of your posts genuine, or are they all just to irritate valuble forum users?

no shes dangerous lol

Just reread the post, and now i think if for whatever reason you cant lunge you should do what dominobrown suggested.
you said you cant hack your mare out in hand ? think about it - why?
is she bolshy? spooky? etc...

why dont you, while you have the chance dosomehing about this...

e.g, if she is spooky, do what dominobrown suggsted, walking over tarpaulin etc

or if she is bolshy teach her to lead properly in hand

just suggestions, but i do think lunging is a good idea :)

The handy pony idea was brilliant - you'll make yourself a bolder horse by taking her over tarpaulin/alongside a washing line with bags on it/in and out of small man-made gateways and such. You could also do some on-the-ground turn on the forehand etc if she can't already do it (I assume you'll tell me she can and rubbish the idea but never mind).

I suspect you're not actually confident in what you need to do to lunge properly with a line hence why you're making excuses instead of admitting you don't know how to do it (cause at 14/15, everyone wants to be grown up and knowledgable and there's nothing more cringingly embarassing than not knowing how to do something - we've all been there :) ) Why not get YO or your instructor to give you a lunging lesson and show you some exercises that you can then do to benefit you both?

If I was you I would go mow some lawns, muck out some stables for people, offer to clean tack, rake up fallen leaves etc so I could get the £6 for a lunge line.

Buy one then... I am sorry but if you have horses you must be able to spare the odd £6.

I think that the handy pony idea is a fantastic one. Listen to the advice people are giving to you and try and not dismiss them just because you may not agree with what other members of the forum say.

Best of luck :)

I've reposted my suggestions as you seem to have overlooked it... :D Oh, and i'm sure you can scrape together a few quid for a lunge line - someone on your yard might even sell you theirs if they hardly use it, winner, cheap lunge line, problem solved. Failing that, take a loan from the bank of parentals, I doubt they'd charge much interest on a tenner or so!

As previously posted I'm sure someone would give/ sell cheaply a lunge line to you, I have 3 lunge lines which I don't use I just seem to have collected them through the years, I'm sure there is someone else like this on your yard.

And I think the handy pony idea is quite good, will be fun for you and horse and may teach your horse to not be "dangerous".

i cant borrow one coz of her ringworm?[/QUOTE. Do you want advice or not, you have an excuse for everything, and these suggestions are from knowledgeable people!! I have suggested myself before for you to have lessons in stable management and general care of a horse but i think that fell on deaf ears too, either take heed of what is said or be on your own.

i cant borrow one coz of her ringworm?

Is that a question or a statement?

I know you're a kid but it is really maddening when people offer perfectly good suggestions only to have every one shot down. If you don't like them, don't do them but we're not going to solve every problem. If you don't have a lunge line and you want to lunge, find a way to get one. If you don't want to, don't do it.

Sheesh!

How about this.

Hi,

As some of you may know, Ebony has ringworm and therefore I can't ride so I have been loose schooling/lunging her and wondered whether there is anything I can do to make it more interesting.

I don't particularly want to jump her and my lunge line is missing which is why I have been loose schooling her. I don't want to ask somebody to lend me theirs as I would hate to infect somebody else's horse with ring worm.

I'm also not confident hand walking her as she's too lively/bargy/spooky - delete as appropriate.

"errr ill try lol and what? under washing lines?"

How about

OK, that sounds interesting, thank you. What would you suggest I do?

People will be a lot more willing to help you if you try really listening to what they say, and not wasting their time by leaving out details which, you expect them to know such as, can't borrow lunge line / can't hand walk her. Sorry if I'm being mean, please don't eat me, I just thought an example would help OP get more help in future.
