I took my lad hunting on Saturday for the first time this year. Neither of us are particularly fit, so I only planned to go for a couple of hours. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it, and am still on a high - gutted that my lack of fitness meant I had to go home early as my lad was still raring to go! Anyway, what shocked me was the 20 stone + gents hunting all day, not seeming to get out of breath, and the enormous girls/women that were doing the same. I mean, I'm not lightweight, but some of the riders there dwarfed me! I have firmly decided I need to lose weight before attempting to go again, but how on earth do some of thse people manage a full day!

I know, I am riding fit and it took me 2 days to recover from last week, I ACHED to high heaven, had a fantastic day but not sure how some of these 80 year olds do it!

Tell me about it. I did 3 hours of autumn hunting and could barely walk down the stairs for the next week! We finished with a fund raising cooked breakfast when I went and I thought I was going to throw it back up (lovely as it was), all I wanted was gallons of tea!!!

Thats why I'm on a diet and trying to get fit. I went autumn hunting a few weeks ago and looked like a beetroot after 2 hours. Since then I have lost just over a stone and a half. Not sure if I'm any fitter though.

I suspect I'm one of those who dwarfs you... i'm not a lightweight rider either, but I work bloody hard in the gym to keep myself fit - I do and hour and a half of endurance work once a week, 2 half hour interval sessions a week, and we try to do a long walk (8+ miles) on a sunday. I then have 2 sessions where I work on core strength and muscle tone.

But then, I'm fortunate that I only have to go up to the yard 2 days a week and at the weekends....

Simply due to the fact that some "heavyweight" people do ride extremely "light".
I have a great friend who would not be remotely offended if I call her "a rather large lady".
However, she rides far "lighter" than some people I know who weigh 8 or 9 stone.
Some people just cannot get their sit upons out of the saddle, get their weight onto their knees and off their horses' backs - which expends lots of energy for both parties.
I find a skipping rope works wonders - 5 minutes, twice a day.
