Sell horses I mean. I just cant bring myself to do it. Sunday I put my mare on project horses on a bit of a whim. And I have had so many calls! I have a lovely knowledgeable lady interested in her who is offering a great home and I am really not sure I am going to be able to go through with it. She is not the horse for me and its is the right decision to sell her and get something quieter but I am finding the whole process very traumatic :( Any words of wisdom to make it easier?
 
It is very difficult, but look at it positively. You know she is not right for you, but she could be right for someone else. Do keep your head screwed on though and ensure the home she goes to is the right one for her. Even if this lady sounds perfect, watch her ride, handle your girl, find out if the home you'd like is actually what is being offered. Be patient and wait for the right home and you'll find letting her go won't be so hard.
 
It really is the most horrible thing - unless you're glad to see them go of course! But you know what, you have to try and remember why you're selling her and why you want to get something else.

You're very lucky that you sound like you've found a lovely home for her - that's something to be thankful for.

When I sold my mare, I dealt with everything and sorted everything out a few days before and my Mum was kind of enough to be there when her new owners collected her. I packed all her stuff up and went down to the field to say bye to her - yes, I cried, a lot! But I told her that she was going to have a lovely new Mummy and that if she didn't behave herself, I'd be there like to shot to sort her out! Lol.

Her new owner stayed in touch brilliantly and text me to let me know they had got her home safe and she was settling in nicely - I think this helps a huge amount.

Just try and take it all with a smile on your face, you know it's best for her and it's best for you.

Just imagine how you'll feel when you pick up your lovely new horse :)

I'm awful at selling horses. I thought about selling my late mare tons of times but could never go through with it.
Could u not buy your new one first? Might be tight money wise but if you found the right one, after a week or 2 of having new easy pony you may find selling Ip less heartwrenching?
I miss Vaya tons and tons but if she was here still, I know which one I would choose out of her and Jae. (Thats awful to say as I loved her so much but Jae is a billion times easier).

Said horse belonged to my teenage daughter who was tragically killed. She had loved him more than anything so now I did too

However he was too small for me and had a stifle injury that only showed up when someone larger was riding. So I loaned him out, it took a few trials before suitable loaner was found as he was not an easy horse (WC)

Eventually loaner said sell him to me or have him back :eek: BUT I had not seen him so happy since my daughter was with him. I was heartbroken but sold him as it was BEST FOR HIM!!

If I had kept him it would have been selfish of me

Not saying its like this for all situations, but sometimes we have to put our feelings aside and do what is right for them, and often the sensible thing too.

Not criticising anyone as I know sometimes we just can't too (been in that one too)
 
Can't really offer any tips. I'm not exactly a serial-seller but I have sold about 10 horses/ponies to date and found every single one very difficult, even projects that I've only had for 2 months! You do get attached, but I just make sure I vet the potential home well and only sell to them if you're 100% happy that your horse will be happy with them. I also keep in touch with all of them, normally people are more than happy to talk about their horse so its never been any problem! I'm still in touch with the owner of the very first pony I sold about 10 years ago (now the second owner!)!
 
Thankyou everyone for your support. It will be very hard as she was my first horse but after all the calls I had this lady sounded the best. FW I would get another but if IP doesnt sell to this lady I might be another 6 months before i let her slip away :)
 
Any ideas on a new one? absolutely NO full tbs unless its your boy FW!! :) I have around 2k - not expecting ready made, just good trainable attitude and less switched on than the usually buzzy tb!
 
Umm a gelding?! Lol :)
Our TB's are lovely, mums one is amazingly quiet but they are Geldings so that might make a difference?! Mums old ex intermediate eventer was TB too so they aren't all buzzy, I just say that because they are a cheap option and for 2k you could get a retrained one.
When my mum got R (off a friend) and I still had V, I thought bloody hell how come she ends up with the perfect horse and mines a mission lol.
Umm otherwise an unbroken youngster? Sometimes over stocked studs sell umbroken 3yr olds quite cheap and you could get a nice Irish or WB that way? I quite fancy a welsh D (but they can be sensitive too) or Connemara but the connies are expensive... And small.
Or go to Ireland.. That way you pick up from the source and don't pay dealers prices over here. Trip to Ireland could be fun!

Sure there is something lovely out there :) :)
