How do they do it??

A lady I know keeps her horse opposite my yard. Today there was a knock at my door and a friend (non horsey) sayong the horse had broken through the fence and bolted down the road. It turns out she seems to have got her neck stuck through the gate, panicked, demolished the gate and took off down the road. She was extremely shocked and has taken a large chunk of skin off both sides of her neck. She also has a puncture wound to her knee and hind leg. Had to leave before the vet had finished so not sure whether she was taken in to the vets or not.
How the hell do horses manage to do such crazy things? Hopefully she'll be fine but she's an old lady, 28.

Poor old girl, as flight animals when they panic they panic, the fact that she got stuck in the gate must have terrified her and even more panic when she couldn't escape. Xx poor thing, I hope she us ok. I know a horse that panicked in a trailer before and somehow got wedged above the partition, scary stuff
