Yes, my bitch started screaming when she got up, wouldn't jump up (most unlike her) and even started to stop running around. I took her to my own vet but after a couple of weeks he decided to refer her to a specialist, she had extensive xrays and was found to have mild hip displaysia and mild arthritis (the ends of the bones look furry on xray) with rest, then hydrotherapy and painkillers, she's now leading a full and active life again.
They x-ray and look at the bone edges.... if they are clean they are ok but if they look fuzzy or fluffy round the edges then its likely that its arthritis

Interesting CD, my dog (only 7) had the same symptoms. The vet found a sore spot in her spine but she hasn't had x-rays or advanced diagnostics, I was trying to put it off as she is so vet-phobic. I'm convinced that if she had x-rays it would confirm arthritis.
But like you she has been going for hydrotherapy. She is also on a joint supplement and a magnetic collar. These have helped, but she does still struggle on the stairs after a long walk. Norocarp helps a lot, but if I can I want to avoid long term use of anti-inflammatories as she is so young and I don't want her liver to pack up. So I'm trying to get the right balance.
I don't see how they can diagnose it without an x-ray - but they do... my parents border collie was diagnosed with 'end stage arthritis' nearly 2 years ago - with no x-rays... So we tried taking her to a chiropractor and she is now almost back to normal! So can't have been end stage arthritis.. Although I don't down that she is arthritic too. But without an x-ray how can they be sure?
BTW - she has Magnacare supplement and a bioflow collar as well as regular chiropracter sessions - the first eyar of those were paid for by the insurance and actually she only needs it once every 2 months now. Transformation was amazing
