... horse hunting!? Many of you helped and consoled me a few weeks back when I had a 'mini breakdown' with horse search woes, but am pleased to say I've now found a lovely mare who we are picking up on Saturday :)

However, after nearly 2 months of looking I seem to have developed a 'horse hunting' habit! I've just got home from work now and am doing my usual of looking on Preloved and looking on local FB horsey pages at horses for sale??! What am I doing??? Hehe. Maybe when she arrives my brain will register that I'm not looking anymore!

Or is this how people end up 'collecting' horses...? Yikes :/

You work out the cost of looking after the horse you've just bought, then look at your bank account & if that doesn't deter you from horse hunting nothing will!! ;)

Haha, very true! Probably won't deter me! The other one I've got costs a fortune and I still decided getting another was a good idea! Lol. Must be crazy :)

Oh don't. I am on so many groups. So many web sites are on my daily trawl. I had three viewings booked, two for Thursday, one for Friday. Two still to go and see as the fell boy sold. What did I do? Picked up the phone to a riding school and asked what they had. I can't stop.

Help!

This sounds so familiar! I feel your pain. Good luck with the viewings! :)

I'm in the same boat as you........ one passed the vetting this afternoon so another mouth to feed/train/kit out etc. :(

I don't think there's any feeling comparable in the world to the equal measure of excitement and pure unadulterated fear/ anxiety/ 'what the heck have I done' of buying a new horse!

Although I've never had a child so perhaps that's up there ;) TBH, I think getting the new horse is partly because people keep asking when I'm having a baby and it's my way of saying 'not any time soon' :D

Even if not actively looking I think its normal to browse or as I call it 'keeping my options open' I have two fantastic ponies but I hanker after a show pony, only a little one - about 12 hands, a bay with no white, gelding, three years old-ish.... not that I've thought about this too much....

Haha - doesn't sound like you've given this much thought at all ;) I must admit, it is fun 'window shopping' :)

We once bought two in one week. That was scary and I thought it had cured me... but n, two years down the line we bought another. 5 horses! One retired, one totally broken, two rideable and a pony for the Grandson who was only a twinkle in his mother's eye when we bought her!

I regularly window shop on Horsequest despite having my perfect horse already. I often see ones that if I could afford, or had my own land I would go and view. I love seeing what's out there and imagining getting myself a little youngster to bring on as a project but unless my lotto numbers ever come up it has to remain in my imagination LOL

Probably just as well I don'y have my own land or I'd have more ponies than you could shake a stick at plus I have a hankering for a few coloured donkeys :)

This is me exactly!!! (apart from the coloured (or any!) donkeys) … I window shop all the time, but I do actually know that the only horse in the world I want is the one I have!

I make it a bit of a game by reading down the ad so I can't see the price and trying to guess the price before I can actually see it. I am getting quite good at it! :)

I always look at the main horse for sale site here in NZ, just like seeing what is out there, etc. I have the horse of my dreams and definitely not in the market for another but still like to look. Always have, before the internet used to always scour the classifieds in Horse & Hound. I also look to see what properties are for sale despite having a house that I love.

Oooh congrats! So glad to read you've finally found something...gives me hope that my next horse might be just around the corner!

For those of you struggling with the habit feel free to look on my behalf ;) I'm still looking for a 15.3-16.2hh sane WB/Sports horse type allrounder capable of hacking alone, RC, dressage (must already be competing at Prelim but scope to go to Ele/Medium with work) and BE80/90. Must be confidence giving to jump but don't mind a bit spooky/looky on the flat. Reasonable budget and 5* home awaits. Ideally within the South East but will travel for the right horse.

Every now and again I like to see what I would get for my money if I were in the position to buy and to see if there are any horses that float my boat but I try not to look very often because I think it temps fate and would be devastated to find myself in the position where I had to buy another because B had gone.

Mine turned from horse hunting... to online shopping for the horse!

Oh God - yes! This is what I've started doing :/ She comes with no tack or rugs, but I bought her on the justification that she is the same size in rugs as mine and got loads of spare stuff she can have, but already started bidding on stuff for her! Feel mean just giving her 'hand-me-downs' lol :D

What are you looking for and where are you? X

There is an empty stable next to my girl...I can't help daydreaming about filling it and window shopping to see if anything would fit the bill...

Safe, sane pony, weight carrier. Family type, basically, who has been there, done that. We're in Durham.

Today's viewing resulted in me getting off within two minutes as the pony was so sensitive to the leg that the pro suggested not using it at all. ie he would take off if you did.

Even though I have a perfectly amazing loan horse it hasn't stopped me looking at all of the horses for sale (bad habit of 6 years 😂). You'll just have to refrain from buying, maybe sit on your hands or wear a blindfold?

I've had my mare for about 4 weeks now and she was found by my instructor not me even thou I spent hours and horsequest was my most used website after fb. Once I got her I went a bit cold turkey and haven't really looked since. I have however found myself drawn to looking at horseboxes instead, because even thou I have a perfectly good one and can't afford a new one, I need to shop for something!
Do love window shopping thou, far, far more enjoyable than actually looking properly...
