How do you clean grooming brushes ?

Does getting the loose hairs off with a metal curry comb and then banging the brushed against a wall to remove the dusty bits count?

Please tell me than the lastest equestian marketing wheeze is not trying to make out we are bad people if we don't buy some over priced stuff the clean our grooming kits

I don't. I throw the old ones away and buy new ones :)

The only things I keep, and clean - chuck in a bucket of water with whatever soapy stuff happens to be around - are my rubber curry and my metal curry comb.

I put mine in a bucket of water with baby shampoo added then use a human comb along the gaps between rows of bristles to clean out any snagged hairs

Washing up liquid or cheap shampoo (the same supermarket own brand stuff I use on the horse) and then rinse well and leave to dry bristles down on a clean surface. Washing up liquid is pretty good as it shifts grease as well as mud.

Just washed my grooming stuff about 15 minutes ago :D I just used cheap washing up liquid and warm water, then rinsed them and left to dry in the sun :)

stick them all in a horseware wash bag in the washing machine, with a numnah to stop them making too much noise (so OH doesn't notice!) & ordinary washing powder.

Same as everyone else. Bang, rake and chuck in soapy bucket. Rinse, shake n dry in sunshine.

Please don't tell me there's a special grooming brush washer (£500) only to be used with the special grooming brush detergent ?

Did mine 2 days ago,in sink at home in washing up liquid and disinfectant and left to drain on draining board

Bucket of warmish water, horse shampoo, soak all the brushes for a bit then scrub together with a plastic curry until it looks clean, then rinse with the hosepipe and put out to dry :)

:o:o well I have to confess, I just rub two brushes together then bang them on the wall:o:o; but each horse has their own little kit so they can't potentially pass things to each other.

Soda crystals are brilliant stuff. Great for hot towelling too.

Off to collect my brushes to put in the washer before the hubby gets home ;)

No need to put in washer just dissolve Soda crystals in warm water put brushes in and leave for about 10 - 15 mins come out like new just rinse off and leave to dry. No need to use washing machine at all:eek:;)
