Just curious as to what is seen as the norm regarding back straps. I have always looped them through each other (ie do one up clipping it to the same side & then passing the other one through it before clipping it up). However, have recently seen horses without them looped through each other.
So.... how do you do yours?

I use to cross through each other, but now I remove and replace with fillet string, after seeing a horse nearly break a leg after it some how managed to remove the rug!!

This ^^^

I always make sure that the leg straps aren't stitched on, so they can be removed easily.

I put other as i tend to remove the leg straps if they'll come off and use one as a fillet string. I absolutely hate being stood behind a horse, normally keen to go out, fiddling about with those b****y straps, they're dangerous to horse and rug putter oner. If i do have to use them i loop them through.

thanks for your replies.
Iv always seen looped through each other as the traditional way & was to prevent chaffing & rug slippage, but a rug put on by someone several years my senior hadnt looped or crossed them & I wanted to know if anyone else did it this way & if they could explain why. However, so far has chosen that method!

at riding school i was taught something really weird but a friend showed me that it was much easier to just loop them through
