I had a bad accident resulting in a broken neck and am looking for a new safe horse to return to riding, The horse needs to be a total saint, with no bucking, rearing bolting rubbish.. Over 14.2..under 16.2 ( trailer height)To be used mainly for hacking and local stuff, beach/ pleasure..Where is the best price to find one? A dealer?

Word of mouth?

If you want something that's utterly utterly angelic I'd rather go for something from someone that you know, or friend of a friend. I've had a bad experience with dealers which has really put me off them.

Ex riding school?

I agree with word of mouth, you can't generalise a breed, they all have their quirks and personalities! Contact your local RDA centre perhaps, they will be able to help!

Wherever you look, give a thought to a Ride and Drive, preferably 12 or over. They are usually bomb proof, having seen it all and been trained by 'old school' horsemen (usually men still, although there are more women involved these days) The sanest most sensible horses we have ever had have been ride and drive. Our first horse (many many years ago) was a retired Landau horse from Blackpool, the only two things he ever got excited about were steam jets from an old dye house and brass bands! It is usually easy to avoid those :D The other source of potentially fairly bomb proof hacks is a good riding school, they will often sell on to prevent the horses becoming stale.

Hi I would contact your local RDA group and have a chat. Quite often the hprses are living in private homes .They sometimes know of horses that get occasional use
