Perhaps follow on foot to get an idea on what happens - might be easier than going mounted for the first time.

I followed on foot for three years before I had the 'bottle' to go mounted - I am a novice rider

I have friends who have been hunting all their life so I had plenty of help from them :)

I agree. I would find out who your local hunt are, ring the secretary and have a chat with them. At home my YO was v active with our hunt so she took me along as a guest until they got to know me. When I moved down here I called the secretary and had to provide references as they didn't know who I was (200 miles from home). I don't think they actually took them up but just wanted to know I coould provide them. I also had to join the Supporters Club to get the meet card.
