Jack got a kick in the field on Sunday which has left an open wound on his front left just where it meets his chest - his armpit I call it. Been on bute and have been hibi-scrubbing daily then purple spraying and covering with that orangey foam self adhesive dressing. Seems to be healing well - still a bit of clear liquid oozing from it but the daily change of dressings has left quite a lot of sticky residue in the hair surrounding the wound. I've tried hot water and shampoo but it's not shifting - any ideas?

I think you'll find that Surgical Spirit, available from any chemist, will get the sticky off. Just pour some onto some cotton wool/lint & it'll wipe off. This also gets elastoplast residue off people.

Methylated spirits (the clear stuff, coloured stuff is v.toxic) works wonders just dont get it in the cut as it stings!
This may be the same stuff as the Sugical Spirit suggested by Toby_Zaphod......

Any one know what Surgical Spirit actually is?

You might be able to shift it with ordinary cooking oil - this sometimes breaksdown the glue.

If it's not causing any discomfort to the horse I'd leave removing it until the wound has healed over.

Surgical spirit is Ethanol & Methanol, so is Methelated spirits!
