I have a yard with 20 ish horses on and my muck heap is ever growing. Mostly shavings. My landlord takes it away roughly twice a year but charges me around £400 a time. Wondered if you could let me know how you get rid of your muck and do you have to pay???
Thanks

same as tangoharvey .Advertise in local shop , put ad up on local allotments or freebie paper --you sometimes have to be a bit inventive on wording for the paper such as Fertiliser instead of manure, but hey, it works, If you are happy to just let them take it away for free and not charge then hopefully it soon disappears !!

I use hemp bedding which rots very fast. I only have 2 horses, but I had to remove our muck heap for the first time in 7 years, this summer. The farmer let me plonk it on his field, so it only cost a few pints of beer to reward my husband who did the moving with a borrowed digger.

local guys from the allotment come down and take ours, once they know about it, you will have a steady stream of gardeners!

Same here

We pay £190 a load to have the muck heap removed which is done about 4 times a year. We have 13 horses and muck clear the fields daily.

Only problem with shavings is that a lot of gardners don't want them - something to do with nitrogen uptake I think.
