It's driving me mad - tried every brush I own, the Hoover, sticky tape etc. Is their a quicker and easier way? (Are those blue gadgets from hoys or your horse etc any good?)
Leave it in a damp, rotting shed for 2 years. Consider throwing it in the skip when you find it as it is SO minging! Decide to give it one last chance and throw it in the washing machine with some smelly washing tabs nicked off your Mum. Find out that it comes out sparkly and new!! (Although the lounge has a slight whiff of smelly washing tabs (usually use unperfumed), horse and shed).
Sorry, I have no sensible suggestions, although I have to add that my old boy was grey so the above method may have it's merits .
Also if you put it in the tumble dryer (not for too long or it'll shrink!) the hairs will magically find their way to the lint thingy, I was thinking about tumble dryer plus lint ball things!
Dont put cotton lined rugs over the top of them, you get hairs on both sides...
Brush with the flicker type dandy brush - reguarly.
Wash reguarly
Get some of the very sticky packing tape, wrap around your hand and pat all over once you have done all of the above, it does work...I wash rugs for a living! (several pieces of tape, not just the 1 )
TUMBLE DRYER!! Seriously tumble drying removes everything from hairs on horse stuff to tissues accidently washed with your best frock
It takes quite a high heat to shrink *most* materials,so half hour on a medium heat will be fine for a fleece rug I should think.I have tumbled all sorts of horse stuff of various materials and have never shrunk or damaged anything yet,and everything comes out much less hairy than it went in that's for sure!! (that last bit sounds a bit wrong lol)
washing machine - BUT be warned - mine broke down recently and it was due to the filter being blocked by long cobby hairs - easily fixed though - just clean ou the filter
A "friend" helped herself to our best travel fleece and returned it coated in think white hair ( I have a bay!). I tried everything, I washed it, hoovered it, brushed it, beat it but it was still full of white hair. In the end I took a lint roller to it. It took 3 replacement heads to do it but I removed 95% and I imagine the rest will come off with use and future washing.
