I will shortly have two dogs, one of seven and one of three. Now I'm thinking the three years old will want more exercise than the seven year old who is good for about half an hour off lead and will then sit down and not budge.

The dog walker does sessions of either 40 mins or an hour and price wise it makes sense for them to be walked together but i'm not sure which timescale to go with as 40 mins is about right for the 7yrs old but an hour for the 3yrs old.

Any thoughts.

PS. Both will have a stretch in the mornings and evenings but I want a proper walk midday while I do chores etc.

PPS Can someone also recommend a good place to bet a bit of sparkle ie collars. never had a girly before and want some bling.

1st thought was that a 7 year old should not be downing tools after half an hour - then I remembered what dog you have! :D

It is hard and time consuming, I went through this last year when my lab was struggling with his joints so had to walk him, then leave him behind to run the socks off the 2 younger ones for a couple of hours.

Could they go together but the new girl have more play and retreive type activity whilst your boy mooches about? This will also help bond them and eliminate any 'ownership' issues or jealousy towards time spent with you one on one.

Can't wait to meet her (in a virtual way)

As for the sparklies - forget it - my boys are mens men! :D

LOL the sparklies will be for girly dog, my first so am very excited.

Yes possibly a good idea re the retrieve / games but if all bull breeds are the same I will be retrieving any objects thrown myself :D

Could you give the younger one a longer walk in the evening?

For the collars I got mine from Kitsch Collars - and yes they are but I have no shame :D - mine are boys too  They have some lovely designs in different widths depending on breed etc and.............velvet leads!!!!!!!!!!!

:o ^^^^^^^^^^

oh dear my two are getting stuff from Elmo!!!

LOL its great for chihuahua's that like tutu's but not rufty tufty bulldogs :D

Make sure you only walk yours after dark without a full moon. That way they won't be seen and therefore embarrassment saved.

I have a Goldie and a GSD - the Goldie has severe hip dysplasia and so, can't manage long walks. I will walk both of them around the block, take the Goldie home so she can collapse (:)) and take the GSD back out for a run with me. It doesn't seem to bother her.
When I was little we had a puppy GSD and an oldie Goldie! The Goldie used to bomb down the field like a loony and then collapse at the bottom panting whilst the GSD careered round for ages more chasing a ball. By the time the GSD was panned, the Goldie was ready to walk home :) simple!

I have three dogs- one 4yo, one 3yo and one 12yo. My 4yo is a border collie so he needs loads and loads of running time. When I take them out I give them all a short brisk walk and then stop at a certain place where my golden oldie can lie down. Whilst she lies down I play fetch with my collie (with his tennis ball launcher!) He does this over and over again, sometimes oldie gets up and wants to play fetch in which case I let her catch the ball a few times and then, if necessary, forcibly make her lie down again (otherwise she's sore and stiff the next day.) So basically I do a short walk for all of them and then plonk oldie down whilst I play with my younger one- most of the time oldie's content to sit back and observe :-)

What breed is your current dog?

With your new mastiff you need to build up gradually. 20 mins max twice a day. Unless you know she is fitter than that. Otherwise you could get cruciate problems. Think small horse! If she is anything like mine, walks two days running require a day off! ;)

My bitch has a rolled collar which is lovely. It doesnt mark her coat. So much more sophisticated than bling! LOL!

i do the exact same as bryngelenponies i have a 10yo and a 2yo and the oldie cant walk any great distance so i take them both out up the forest and do a relatively short loop but the 'pup' runs riot through the trees and undergrowth chasing stones, sitcks etc whilst the oldie toddles along at her own pace and joins in when the modd takes her. end up being out for at least an hour but both have had the relevant excersise they require.
